In the midst of my husband Bradbs stem-cell transplant he developed a fever and was admitted to University of Washington Hospital here in Seattle. While he was in the hospital my sister phoned to tell me my mother had been diagnosed with an aggressive, advanced cancer and that I probably should plan to come to see her bsooner rather than later.b Fortunately my in-laws were able to come and stay with Brad so I could fly off to Michigan to see my mum. I arrived on Thursday the 18th of July, she died on Friday July 19th. I was glad to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to her and felt blessed that she didnbt suffer; from the day of diagnosis to her death was 3 weeks, much more quickly than any of us could have imagined. I am certain I will feel sad for a long time to come but must return to the battle at hand b fighting by my husbandbs side against his cancer. The medical professionals have told us that the stem-cell transplant may have added as much as two years to Bradbs life, we are hoping they are wrong and that it will add much more than that. Unfortunately, while all of these life-altering experiences were happening Joni was lauded in Ontario and I was unable to keep up with all the hoopla. I will endeavor to catch up in the weeks to come and perhaps post some thoughts as I do.
