That was my mistake, as I see from one of the articles that Les posted. Doug Cuthand from the Saskatoon StarPhoenix has clearly taken Joni -- and the issue of the first nations -- seriously. I remember an interview that Joni did years ago in which she suggested that the kind of in-your-face protest that Sinead O'Conner did when she ripped up a picture of the Pope was perhaps ultimately counterproductive (in retrospect, perhaps it was prescient). I think she offered up "The Magdalene Laundries" as a more diplomatic and ultimately more effective criticism. Do you think that Joni has made a conscious decision, both in her lyrics and in her public statements, to be less nuanced? I know she's always been outspoken, but her deliver seems to have become more, well... blunt. Is it perhaps merely the freedom that comes with age?
