Anyway, I've been hard at work constructing guitar arrangements, mainly for the songs that are more piano-centric. Of the five or six on my list, two are done: "River" and "Chinese Cafe." "River" is one that I have been perfecting on and off since 2010. I even sent a "prototype" to JMDL back then. It's basically a jazzy guitar arrangement of Joni's classic "River," with the harmonies and overall "feel" closer to Herbie Hancock's version from 2007. The tuning is A#FA#GA#D and I am proud to day that tabs for my arrangement are available on the official Joni Mitchell website! The video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtNlspvp83k and the tabs are here: http://jonimitchell.com/music/transcription.cfm?id=493 "Chinese Cafe" follows the same idea. Even though I'm not a fan of Joni's synthy stuff, I've always enjoyed this song and have wanted to make a guitar arrangement for a while. This one just came to me one night. I'd been looking at the chords, in standard tuning as written in "Joni Mitchell Complete" and started to work it out in DAEGCE. Didn't quite work so I fiddled with the knobs and magically ended up in good old CGDFCE and that did the trick. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the tuning used on the original. Also, I'm told this is the first time anyone's tried to transcribe this song in an altered tuning! The video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F70jDfeQauI and the tabs are located at http://jonimitchell.com/music/transcription.cfm?id=493 Next up: "All I Want," "Court and Spark," and maybe "Rainy Night House"... Hope you enjoy these! ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2013 #1020 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list, sendtojoni@smoe.org.
