I know I missed a whole tour late 70s. How did we manage? Jamie, was it good? Here is all the news on PazFest III. For those newbies on the list and people who have been sedated or asleep at the wheel. PazFest III WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???? It's a Joni Fest on steroids. We get together and play music eat drink and share for a long weekend. At the same time I hold a Tribute concert to Her Majesty with a combination of the best of New Orleans musicians and friends and performing artists from the list. The proceeds of the concert benefit The Ruth Paz Foundation. She was my mom and loved kids and took care of over 22,000 sick kids over her career with an emphasis on burn children. When she passed my sister and I took on her work and have not looked back. We will be gathering (so far about 30 of us signed up to be here in New Orleans) October 3-7, 2013. We have a residence in the French Quarter that is owned by 2 very dear friends who will probably kill me after that week end, but I digress as usual. The residence has 4 charming cottages around an amazing courtyard in the heart of the french quarter. Also there is a huge performance space that is within the compound and it is SOUND PROOF so late night jams are encouraged and WILL happen. Unfortunately there is not duck pond (sorry Donna) or pool (altho there is one at the Official Hotel which is the Astor Crown Plaza on Canal Street which is walking distance to party central). So far the official plans are as follows. Thursday October 3-Welcome Dinner at a Great New Orleans restaurant. JMDL performances at the Courtyard in the Quarter. Friday October 4-An Evening With Mutts of the Planet featuring Robin Adler, Dave Blackburn, and Barnaby Finch with Special guests of course. Saturday October 5-A JMDL/New Orleans Tribute to Joni Mitchell at the Howlin' Wolf at 8pm till. Sunday October 6-Brunch at Courtyard in The Quarter with Celebrity Chefs. Afternoon tour and then evening private dinner and performances for JMDL Folk and friends This is something that I wrote up to send out to the local artists splaining what's up with the tribute concert fundraiser. Won't you please consider joining us and coming to meet actual JMDL people in the flesh in a city that really does not sleep and has such amazing food and music and culture?? For those of you on a budget please contact me and we will do our best to accommodate you if you would like to be in that number but can't afford to come in and pay for hotel and food and booze etc. Also there is a Facebook page that we are using to talk and plan privately and you can contact me or Gentlemen Jim who has been an amazing help to me in organizing. As we get a little closer I will need some other volunteers to be used and abused by me in return for love respect and whatever I can give you that you don't have and I do! I hosted a fundraiser for the Ruth Paz Foundation to build a Burn Hospital in Honduras in May of 2000. We had the concert at the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans and called it Pazfest-A New Orleans Tribute to Joni Mitchell. Artists included: David Lahm, Jason Marsalis Band, Susan Cowsill, Brian Stoltz, The Brian Thomas Band, Kim Carson w/ Bud Tower, Kim Prevost and Bill Solley, Jack Neilson, John Parker, Lil Queenie, John Rankin, Beth Patterson, Leslie Smith with Michael Pellera, Robert Mache, Candace Cox, Danzig and Wooley, Sam Price, Kevin Aucoin, Betsy McGovern and the Denise Marie Band. Over 400 people participated in a beautiful night of music at the Wolf and that show was released on CD in 2001. In August of 2010 we opened doors to the Ruth Paz Hospital for Burns and Pediatric Surgery, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I hosted Pazfest II on Labor Day weekend Sept 2-6, 2010. The main event was once again a tribute to Joni Mitchell concert that was held at the Howlin' Wolf. We were blessed again to have a stellar line up: Jimmy Robinson, Brian Thomas. Sue Tierney-McNamara, Sherelle Smith, Alexis Marceaux, Ingrid Lucia, Irvin Mayfield, Randy Jackson of Zebra, DJ G-Cue, Julian Paz, Alex Price of Snuff Sugar, Alex McMurray, Jonathan Freliech, Joe Cabral, Doug Harrison, Sharon Martin, Kristen Diable, Alexandra Scott, Ray Ganecheau, Christine Ohlman of Saturday Night Live Band, Roman Street, Phil Melancon, Pat Weathers, Leslie Smith with George Porter, Jr., Sharon Martin with Rickie Monie, Charie Gabriel and Joe Lastie of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and many more. We are doing it again on October 5, 2013 at the Howlin Wolf. We have been struggling to keep the doors open and the hospital services intact. A major benefactor has yet to help us with operational funds so we are forced to keep up the battle with friends like you. Several artists have already signed on and I am hoping that you will be able to commit to helping us by performing 1 or 2 Joni songs that night. Please let me know as soon as possible so you can benefit from all the press releases as well as the poster being developed. Please contact me as soon as possible to discuss and pick your tunes. We are hoping for as much diversity and variety as possible. Check out the first release at http://www.cdbaby.com/pazfest We hope to see you in New Orleans!!!
