Or, was > it the sort-of-hint that she might be retiring? A person would have to be a complete dullard to not know Jodie Foster is a lesbian. Anyone with "gaydar" of any sort knew this decades ago. I only wondered how she managed to keep it essentially private (not confirmed by the gossip media outlets) for so long. It either speaks to her power in Hollywood/NY, or it speaks to her friends and family really being respectful of her private life -- which is sort of rare but a wonderful thing if that was the case. As for the speech being controversial, I don't see how or why anyone is saying that. I've seen a few headlines online that are painting the speech as "bizarre," but there was nothing bizarre about it. Sure, Jodie rambled a bit. So what? She's absolutely entitled to ramble if she wants, and it's not like she went on for even ten minutes. (I posted the speech on FB and it runs 6:56 ... http://youtu.be/VIoIvBcTc48) Furthermore, I dare anyone -- even the most practiced and gifted speaker -- to get on stage and receive a lifetime achievement award and *not* ramble a bit. The only surprise for me was Jodie announcing that she's single. (Why, oh why, am I not thinner and hotter and working in the film industry? Missing my chance yet again ... LOL ...) Regarding her possible retirement, there was some follow up from her, saying she does not intend to retire from acting. Bottom line: Jodie Foster is a class act.
