I think it is one of her better covers in terms of the product you get. You are set up for a jarring emotional journey of the music & lyrics & the photo looks so personal....if pretty obvious.....a head shot of a singer pouring her heart out. I like the soft focus - kind of contrasts with how emotionally clear all the songs are. I think it set the whole mood for the album: what you see is what you get. Our girl had grown up - no longer the warbler, but the artist at the zenith of her songwriting & performing skills & this album stood apart from her previous works. I would add to what you say that Todd/the speaker has a dream in which he is chosen to be a healer himself ("the world need a healer", "you will be a healer", "It's time to make the world a little wiser" etc) and the album unfolds from there exploring different facets of what that means: compassion, karma and so on. In some ways it follows on from the themes explored in "Initiation" five years earlier, one of rock's finest albums in my opinion. I have been a Todd Rundgren fan with extreme misgivings: he can make a simply breathtaking album and then follow it with something worthless. Even the songs within one album can be that way. It's as if he has his quality control turned off and can't tell the difference. Unless he feels the need to take the mickey out of his own seriousness, I suppose. Has he ever made any comment about that experience or what he thought of her music or anything? I've read his book but no mention that I recall. In my next life can I come back in that time period??
