I just looked this up in Karen O'Brien's book and it says the cover was a shot taken by Considine at the Troubador around '67 or '68. O'Brien also says that Joni had originally wanted to call the album 'River' and that Joel Bernstein had an idea for a photo that sounds similar to the photo inside the 'Hejira' cover. Maybe that was filed away somewhere in the back of my head when I wrote something awhile back about 'Blue' and 'Hejira'. There's a lesson. Look before you type! The photo on the website is dated 1968 and Blue wasn't released until 1971.
