Besides enjoying her music and voice, I always admired how she seemed to easily transition and progress through many fads and genres over the years She seemed to be a real professional and solid star. I'm very sad to hear of her passing - much too soon. It seems that many did not know she was ill and she was still performing last year. I didn't hate disco, either, and loved that real dancing came back during that time. I think at some point people had just heard enough of disco music and wanted to move on to something new. Last night I was at a local place that has 3-4 acts a night of mostly rockabilly groups. A couple of friends were participating in a big tribute to Link Wray there. What was so cool is that before and between sets, the owner played tapes of all of Donna Summer's hits in tribute to her. Many of the young people there knew all her songs and were singing and dancing along. Not only was she from Boston, she was from Dorchester and went to school just a couple of miles from my house. So she was HUGE here. Unlike all my friends, I didn't hate disco. To me, it was clear about what it was - not deep (certainly), just fun dance music. And it was fun to dance to. My favorite Donna Summer song is "State of Independence." RIP, Donna Summer lots of love, Anne ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #755 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list, send tojoni@smoe.org.
