I think they will go with actresses in their 20s ... it's easier to make them look older than make older actresses look younger ... I think going with talented newcomers would be great. I also agree that good acting is better than good musicianship ... Sissy Spacek was brilliant as Loretta Lynn (and I think she sang this role, too, right?) She didn't look exactly like Loretta either. Also, Jessica Lange did a great job with Patsy Cline, but didn't really look exactly like her. sue email: sem8@cornell.edu ________________________________________ From: owner-joni@smoe.org [owner-joni@smoe.org] on behalf of Paul Ivice [ivpaul42@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2012 12:52 PM To: joni@smoe.org Subject: who should portray Joni? I strongly agree with Marianne that the search for an actress should be a > search for someone with great acting abilities and who can capture some of > Joni's mystique, and not centre around any musical ability rather except > for the absolutely necessary, and I wonder how about Uma Thurman, who'll > meet that credential? Isn't the story to be filmed about how these women broke into the music scene to become stars when they were in their 20s? Uma is 42, Charlize is 37. I know they are both great actors but expecting either of them to play a credible Joni, who was 24 (and looked and sounded younger) when she wrote Woodstock, is a huge stretch, when someone like 22-year-old Taylor Swift might be available.
