As it should be!! :-) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Dave Blackburn Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2012 10:31 AM To: Mark Cc: joni@smoe.org Subject: Re: The casting of Joni in "Girls Like Us" I agree with Mark's comment "I'm not so sure that casting a young, mainstream singer is going to cause a new audience of 20-somethings to turn on to Joni's music, no matter how popular Taylor Swift may be." Taylor Swift's audience is the Justin Bieber crowd and they WILL probably come to the movie as it would be her first movie role, so the price of admission at the box office will be paid. But I don't imagine for a minute that that audience pays any attention to who wrote the songs and if they did discover that these were songs by someone their grandmothers liked that would be an instant "oh magod, ewww, no waaay." As for Joni's more advanced work, I doubt that Swift herself even gets it. But bangs and high cheekbones she can pull off and she can strum a D with the best of them, so that will be good enough to convince most moviegoers that she too is just like the "legendary folksinger of the sixties." I wonder what would happen if Joni herself were asked if there is an actress she could envision playing herself as a young woman. You KNOW she'd have an opinion! ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #568 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list, send tojoni@smoe.org.
