I knew the painting you mentioned before even going to the page, but Joni's comments about it are very interesting and illuminating and, in some cases, humorous: "I have no depth perception. Well (laughs)? I'm one-eyed (laughs)." Joni-fans, the article is well worth reading because it talks about Joni's painting technique but also gives some background on her performance in Japan and on Wayne Shorter's wife Ana, who was killed in a plane crash. Joni's other painting, in the same park, that pictures Ana, is here: http://jonimitchell.com/paintings/view.cfm?id=340&recs=2#viewing I watched the stars chuck down their spears And a plane went blinking by And I thought of Anna Wild and dear* Like fireworks in the sky "Taming the Tiger" * not deer. >________________________________ > From: Robert Sartorius >To: joni@smoe.org; onlyjoni-digest@smoe.org >Cc: anima_rising@yahoo.ca; kellerfrau@gmx.de >Sent: Monday, April 23, 2012 1:28:41 AM >Subject: RE: onlyJMDL Digest V2012 #112 > >Catherine commented (re Variety snippet): > >"Deer fetus"? It's interesting considering I'm sure Herbie cajoled Joni to appear with him and company at last year's Joni's Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl (which was an awesome Jonifest by the way!!) and she did not appear at all. Maybe now that her father has passed she will consider doing something in that vein. I suppose it could be, but it never occurred to me, because I'm kinda thick! It's funny because my daughter is a huge John Mayer fan and she plays his music so often and talks about him all the time that I get kind of tired of it. (I can assure you that I do NOT talk about Joni or anyone even one-tenth as much as Sarah does about John Mayer.) So I'm aware of his health issues (she wanted to go to his next concert, which has been cancelled due to his throat problem.) I thought it might be a reference to Jennifer Anniston (sp?) whom he was dating a while ago, but I also figure his songs may be about more than one person/thing at the same time. Despite my having heard so much John Mayer that I have to sometimes tell Sarah, "Play anything but John Mayer, but if given a choice between John Mayer and Maroon 5, it has to be John, because I absolutely detest Maroon 5," I will admit that I've heard songs from his new album and I think I like it. It's too soon to tell because, once the thing has been released and she has her CD, I'm sure we'll be hearing it non-stop, and she'll be singing along with every song, and Matthew will be trying to kill her. >________________________________ > From: Jamie Zubairi Home >To: Catherine McKay >Cc: Joni List >Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2012 4:30:17 AM >Subject: Re: Joni reference in new John Mayer song > >I love the fact that he quotes her manager "If you see her say hello,". >It's just so Joni. > >Much Joni > >Jamie Zoob > >On 19 April 2012 04:23, Catherine McKay wrote: > >> Hey, Joni-folks.
