Of course we want to take care of ourselves along the way. And one way of doing so is to watch out for judgment. What we judge in others is mostly true of ourselves. It is not an easy process going deep into heart. And it does not make you any more special or better than anyone else. It just means you're more willing to look at your own fear, anger, jealousies, etc. So, when it does come time to make the transition, we can at least take the wisdom we've garnered in this life with us. The thing that I believe "dies" is our old belief systems... like the caterpillar to butterfly, or the fallen trees providing "fertilizer" for the new forest to grow. To: Bob Muller; Gary Hanick Cc: joni@smoe.org Subject: Re: Time's Up NJC Hi Bob and Gary, I don't see much of a difference in what you two wrote given that we are physical beings, which by definition involves both the internal environment of our bodies and external environmental factors in determining lifespan. We are what we are, and a lot of that is a mystery even though we would like to think we know. I'm of the opinion that, "No one knows. We can never get that close." We make guesses at most. So keeping an open mind seems like a good thing to me. There are strong correlations between lifestyle habits and lifespan. You can believe what you want but you can't deny facts, whether it's driving habits, diet, smoking, where you live, etc. If someone is murdered or commits suicide, they're "supposed to" die right then? That idea of pre-destination makes absolutely no sense and pretty much runs counter to everything we know to be true.
