I like her singing. It suits the style of the songs. Her singing reminds me a bit of Marlene Dietrich, although Dietrich really spoke her songs, rather than sang them, whereas Dory could, and did, sing. I'm sure the foregoing sentence makes absolutely no sense to anyone but me. >_____________________________________________ > From: "azeemlondon@gmail.com" >To: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Wednesday, February 15, 2012 12:23:38 PM >Subject: Dory Previn NJC > >I was a little sad, indeed, to read of her death - although it's hard to feel that sad when someone has lived to such a ripe age. Dory was OUTRAGEOUSLY good: I believe at her best she was the equal of anyone, including Joni, Dylan and Laura Nyro. That's an interesting obituary you posted Catherine. The only quibble I'd have with it would be that I think she was a fine singer. Her voice is small but wiry and wonderfully wry, the perfect vehicle for her extraordinary lyrics. > >I've read Bogtrotter too, Anita, a most singular work! > >And if anyone has never heard Dory, please seek out The Lady With The Braid, one of the greatest songs ever written, and a true heartbreaker. > >Azeem in London > >Sent from my iPhone ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #216 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list, send tojoni@smoe.org.
