Although I consider myself a great lover of music, I'm very picky and usually stay within my music comfort zone, and don't usually go out of my way to hear new or different music. I really dislike a certain amount of country rock/folk and the current pop music scene but in pigeon-holing those two genres I think I miss out on a lot. Plus I really need to buy a new car because my car cd player died about a year ago and I'm lost without music in the car!! I've already sent my letter to Santa to send me an 80G ipod. I'm seriously considering putting my whole CD collection on an ipod and throwing out the physical CDs. I'm beginning to really hate the clutter. Oh, to keep to the topic, too. I prefer to listen to albums in song order because I believe that's the way the artist meant it to be heard. A couple Pink Floyds, maybe a Todd or Stevie here or there but for the most part I don't lose anything by throwing the albums in a big bubbling pot, stirring it up and seeing what comes out. Back in the 70's I bought a Sharp tape player that would actually play the tape tracks in random order - kind of sucked because it would take time jumping from tape gap to tape gap, and sometimes it would mistake a moment of silence for break between songs, but it was a start. And like lots of you, I would also make tapes of a mix of songs, not just always tapes of complete albums though I did that too, and more frequently. When CD's came into being, it was cause to rejoice for me, because I could load my 6-disc changer, click shuffle, and let 'er rip. I lusted for the Sony 100-CD changer but never took the plunge. Now I have hard drives and the cloud filled with tens of thousands of songs, and just say "go" and "surprise me". It's the way I listen to music - call me trained by the radio or whatever.
