You are fully aware of your emotional see-saw, yet you persist in satying on it. In my original post, I said it is the road to nowhere. It just depletes you. Whilst for many of us, we may want recognition, I would ask from whom are we REALLY wanting to be recognised? Probably 8 out 10 will be parents. In that way, we never become adult. As for true artists, they work it because they LOVE it and, not for recognition. Look at Van Gogh for example. He was driven and wasn't thanked at all for his art. There are thousands of artists who paint or make music just as expression. For many artists, it's all they can do in life. Work is Love made visible, so Kahil Gibran writes. To work with Love is a great gift. >" I find myself torn and fluctuating between this altruistic attitude and the > basic craving for recognition. > Has anybody felt this before?" Yes I have felt it and some times still feel it. But I see it for what it is. A useless road that leads me nowhere.
