First of all, we all know on the List who's putting out the Joni covers. Yes we're all grateful and Bob knows it, even without getting constant acknowledgements, for the simple reason that he's the only one doing it. What i mean is: Bob is getting the recognition he fully deserves, whether it is voiced or not, by being recognized, by not being anonymous on this List. I will make a religious disgression here: It is said that after we pass on, what's left of us is the memory we leave behind with others. It is also said that there are different levels of charity, the highest level being giving anonymously and not even knowing who the recipient will be. I understand this and i certainly do not expect any thank you for giving to charity. However, as Paul mentioned, if i give to a beggar, because there is direct contact, i do expect an acknowledgement however small it may be. So you see, in the case of the torrent site, which has some 10.000 members, i think it's not the thank you i'm after but instead for some recognition. This has to do with the fear of dying and of being totally forgotten. It is unrational because i know damn well that i will be forgotten. Still i think it is a basic human need to seek recognition by one's peers. Without this need, why would for instance rich and famous artists, movie directors, etc keep doing what they do, assuming they don't need the money? One may argue that putting out Joni covers or videos on a torrent site anonymously is like an act of charity, giving to the world, being a cogwheel in the grand karmic scheme. It is one way of seeing things. I find myself torn and fluctuating between this altruistic attitude and the basic craving for recognition. Has anybody felt this before?
