I didn't realize she was a Nietschze fan from way back. I thought the eagle/serpent thing was a native thing (thinking of the Mexican flag), but then again, the eagle is used by Christians to represent John the Evangelist. I also remember seeing statues of the Virgin Mary stepping on a snake - perhaps the snake that tempted Eve. So, those symbols have been around for a long time. I've never read Nietschze. Is he readable? I really only know of him through Joni, and through the Richard Strauss music, "Also sprach Zarathustra" (the music used at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey.) Apparently the eagle and snake (along with the scorpion) are also symbols of the astrological sign Scorpio (Joni's sign), so, of course, Joni being Joni, there are multiple meanings. >________________________________ > From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" >To: Catherine McKay >Cc: Deb Messling ; "joni@smoe.org" >Sent: Wednesday, December 5, 2012 1:02:45 PM >Subject: Re: Katherine Monk's book > > >Right, I hear you - for me the biggest revelation was just how much Joni lifted from Nietschze. Not to call Joni a plagiarist (as she has done to Dylan), but just to reset my previous (mis)conception that the relative lyrics were not original. For instance the whole Eagle-Serpent thing. > >Bob ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #1749 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list, sendtojoni@smoe.org.
