Sort of. My guess is she's mocking the incarnation of Joni that most know about. When she wrote about kings, queens, primarily drew swirlies and dotted the I in her name with a circle. Even Joni critiqued that period in her life. If you missed this week's "30 Rock" - as it was on Wednesday rather than Thursday - you may have missed Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) doing some sort of imitation of Joni Mitchell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saLC-nOpXIM This is the second Joni moment on "30 Rock" and I can't honestly say that I know whether Fey is mocking or paying tribute to Joni. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2012 21:00:29 -0400 From: kenevans kenevans Subject: The new box I noticed on the website that they had received a copy of the box and that the packaging was cool. (does "they" still mean Jim? It's been a while so I'm not sure.) Anyways - there was no mention of the sonics as compared to the 1997 hdcds, which is really the only reason I would buy this. Anyone know? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2012 08:47:56 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Re: Joni Covers By Local Fusion Band, njc Thanks for that, Jim - looks like you got a very nice Mutts-like (my new word for the day) set of Joni jazz. Would have been nice for them to jump out of the 70's, but that's SO rare I never expect it. Glad y'all were able to pick up on the show and I'm sure they appreciated your generosity. Bob From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" To: JMDL Date: 11/01/2012 11:34 PM Subject: Joni Covers By Local Fusion Band, njc Sent by: owner-joni@smoe.org My girlfriend and I spent an enjoyable evening with a local fusion band called "Flippo", with a guest vocalist named Kay Harris. Since they play fusion, they emphasized songs from THOSL and Hejira. They played In France They Kiss On Main Street The Hissing Of Summer Lawns Free Man In Paris Edith And The Kingpin Dry Cleaner From Des Moines River Woodstock - - break - Coyote Rainy Night House Help Me A Case Of You an instumental called "Green Tea" Black Crow They finished with a Herbie Hancock number called "Butterfly". It was over far too soon. I gave them all a copy of the Joni and James at the BBC disc that Simon mastered for CD long ago. I want to thank Bob Muller for the heads-up. There was a good, enthusiastic turn-out so we can take heart that Joni's music is still being appreciated on a weeknight, in Columbus, Ohio.
