And I love "JOTMAS". Having a favorite Joni song changes with what's going on in one's life. The really angry songs on "DED" sometimes even feel appropriate, depending on mood swings. Overall, the songs on "Hejira" seem to speak to me the most - and this is 36 years after it was released. Yes, the albums in the upcoming boxed set are probably her "best", but "Turbulent Indigo" is terribly underrated, which is a shame, because it ranks up there. I hope she has one more in her! I hope she's feeling the love! ________________________________ From: Michael Paz [mailto:michael@thepazgroup.com] Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2012 11:29 AM To: Gary Hanick Cc: joni@smoe.org Subject: Re: JMDL Digest V2012 #1452 Actually my fave of Joni's may be the live version of Amelia/Pat's Solo/Hejira on S&L. Metheny's playing on that and of course the lyrics of both tunes are so amazing. But as always I am on Both Sides Now as I love Judgement of the Moon and Stars as a close second or second to none. And, as far as a Joni song for the ages, as much as I am really tired of it, "Big Yellow Taxi" should be included. Everyone and his uncle has done his / her version of it, but a lot of people associate the song with Joni. "Shine" is worthy, too. I guess people may think it's "simplistic", but Joni songs take decades to sink in. "Magdalene Laundries" and most of the songs from TI were not immediately loved by many when they were released. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-joni-digest@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni-digest@smoe.org] Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2012 9:01 AM To: joni-digest@smoe.org Subject: JMDL Digest V2012 #1452 JMDL Digest Thursday, September 27 2012 Volume 2012 : Number 1452 ========== TOPICS and authors in this Digest: - -------- Re: Best last song ["Marian Russell" ] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2012 18:00:08 +0200 From: "Marian Russell" Subject: Re: Best last song I would vote for "Last Chance Lost" from TI. Her voice is so beautiful in this one, and it seems very heartfelt in the recording - sad and personal. Shine ... Taming The Tiger ... Turbulent Indigo ... which is the best one, and as I'm listening to the Fez performance of Magdalene Laundries, I really have to say that this song is a masterwork, and probably the last best song she has written ...
