Free wifi with no password! I was able to share with Joni that I had been at the taping of PWWAM, that my first meeting with her in CA had facilitated that and this was full circle. I gave her the photo i brought, and at long last had my pic taken with her. I will let the others share their individual encounters. A recurring theme I heard from her was how beautiful the spot there was. She looked just like she has in recent photos with Hillary and Bonnie. Seemed well and happy. Was kind and gracious. She chatted with her friends during a large part of the movie. Sang a few bars here and there. Did not address the group. The ruby was rustic, beautiful setting, quirky. Mix of Indian, mountain and Balinese decor...and you know, there may be more. For now, Phyliss, taking a ferry to the highway... I remember the Boxing Day sales. And my brother, after he moved away for work, would send me money and a list of albums to buy for him, which I would often buy either at Sam's, or else at A and A, which was next door. My brother would pay me commission for buying the stuff for him and I'd then bundle it up and mail it to him in northern Ontario. You're right about the record stores. We have a few near us and one of them isn't too bad, but most of what they all have is the top 40 stuff. Some sell vinyl, because the hipsters are buying it. I'm not sure if the quality is there or not. I got rid of all my vinyl when I moved out of the house because i had no record player and was tired of lugging the stuff around in the vague hope I might one day get another record player. Now my kids sometimes buy LPs for bands and artists they really likely, although we still have no record player! but sometimes they get it solely for the artwork. There's another record store called Soundscapes which has a lot of indy stuff and even carries people you'd never find elsewhere. I've found Fairport convention oldies and Nick Drake there, and there's also a lot of reggae and ska and so on. It's also popular with hipsters, but that's OK. >________________________________ > From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" >To: Catherine McKay >Cc: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Monday, September 24, 2012 10:06:57 AM >Subject: NJC Re: Sam The Record Man founder Sam Sniderman dies at 92 - sjc > > >No worries, Catherine - I read it with no problems (I think my eyes have been trained to filter out the b's and extraneous fluff). And I really enjoyed it - never visited the man's shop but I felt like I could picture the store and the guy. Reminded me of lots of visits to lots of record stores. I miss going to them - about a month ago I went to a local record store in search of some Tom Waits vinyl for my neighbor's birthday. It was funny because there were 4-5 other folks in the shop, all of whom were VINYL shopping. I don't know the numbers, but CD sales have really got to be in a Mitt-like tailspin these days. > >He didn't have any btw, but a NEW vinyl record store around the corner did - and it was even the one I wanted - "Closing Time", in great condition in fact. I was the only customer in that store, and the owner seemed to be so desperate for customers he wouldn't stop talking! A nice guy (he threw in a T-shirt for free) but I don't need to hear about the wonderful attributes of cassette tapes and record albums. Been there, done that. > >Tomorrow morning I'll be able to listen to the new Bettye Lavette, Mumford & Sons, Green Day - no brick and mortar store required. > >Bob ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2012 08:05:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Magical night with Joni Make that a big me too.
