She was sitting "in the garden" as Sasha working at the restaurant called it. Initially we were all assigned to different tables, but we all met at the restaurant the night before the dinner and were able to ask Sasha to be seated together as close to Joni as possible. She put us at a table near Ray of Ray's Dad's Cadillac, outside on the porch overlooking the garden. There were friends of Joni's and local people there in addition to us handful of JMDLers. Joni came just as the buffet opened. As I walked to the buffet, she walked by me going to her seat. After getting food and eating a little, I saw Joni was talking to people so I went to talk with her too. There were people who had photos of Joni from 1971 that she hadn't seen before. She said they were taken about when she moved to BC. It was cool to hear her talk about that time. She was talking about a guy in the photo who was living a gay lifestyle and later was realize he wasn't gay but was assumed gay for his mannerisms. It was an interesting story. I had a crystal from Hot Springs, AR for her. I gave it to her, but they said her food was coming soon so I left and then came back after she ate. Cassy talked with Joni first and introduced me as being from Arkansas and said there were others of the JMDL there. Joni was flattered that we came from so far to see her and asked how we heard about the event and then said, "the website?" I had a journal I'm writing about this trip. Marianne suggested I write it. I would have known about the event if Marianne hadn't told me. In addition to my journal, I also had a gift I got for Marianne. Joni signed both. I told her Marianne teaches school and couldn't be at the event, and when Joni signed what I got her (can't say what because it is a surprise!) she left out an 'n' in Marianne's name so she corrected it by writing the 'n' in and then putting an X by it saying since Marianne is a teacher she'd grade the spelling as wrong. Joni was so funny! Cassy took my picture with Joni, and then I moved on to let others have a chance to talk with Joni. We sat in chairs next to her at the movie outside at the amphitheater. She was on her old couch Georgio had brought in for her. She had given him the couch because it reminded her too much of her old boyfriend. She was joking about it with him. She had her dog Bella Lagossi with her. Cute Jack Russell type. We could hear her singing along with herself and commenting about things. At the end she thanked everybody for coming and went down near the stage for pictures and to visit with people. She was so good to people. She's amazing! Today I went on a walk to see some water falls with Anita and Steph. While there Georgio and some of his friends showed up. Georgio is one of the owners of the Ruby Lake Resort and had organized the event. We talked a lot with him and took pictures. We told him about Robin and Dave. He said it would be good to have something at the resort where there are performances at the amphitheater. I'm so grateful!!! Phyliss's husband Bob treated us to dinner the first night. Cassy has taken such good care of us and even gave us a 'tour' as we drove through Seattle. I'm off to sleep now. I fly home tomorrow. The whole trip has been magical!
