["Randy Remote" Subject: Re: Quad C&S in Stereo (2 Songs) - Link is NOW Active! Wow, thanks, Simon!! Listened to this a couple of times against the HDCD version of C&S. PP has a crisper, more detailed sound, Wilton Felder's bass stands out in a good way. The background vox at the end reveal themselves more clearly. Joni's layered acoustic guitars are lush, left, right and center. On Same Situation, it sounds like there was a close mic and a distant mic for the piano. In the quad version, the distant mic is up much higher, and they are panned right/left for a spacious effect. The lead vocals on both are crisp, present, and dry, no reverb. Nice to get another angle on these amazing recordings. I recommend burning these to CD and listening on a good system or with headphones. I converted the aiff files to wav using switch audio converter, then burned the wav to CD with Roxio. Note: the HDCD C&S was a large improvement over the original CD. Regarding The Last Waltz and producer John Simon's quote that virtually all of it except Levon Helm's drums and vocals and Muddy Water's vocal were re-recorded after the concert, and my question about whether Joni was re-recorded later.... Again thanks for the complete Joni set from the bootleg. I do not have a copy of the movie or official ST at this time to compare it to. And, the question is, what did they bootleg? It's clearly not an audience recording, so could have been the original live recording, or post overdubbing. A rough mix? The bass sounds suspiciously good, I have heard that Danko's bass was out of tune throughout and had to be redone. Also synthesizers, etc, almost doesn't sound like The Band on "Shadows And Light", and what a different take on that song. Then you have Neil Young's harmonica on Furry, probably the only time he played this with Joni, other than on Hejira. And pretty ballsy of her to play Furry for a partying rock crowd, but they stayed with her. Great to hear these and it would be interesting to ask her about the whole experience. I read that Van Morrison did not overdub his vocals, I suppose Joni did not either. Quality was pretty good, hopefully there are masters somewhere to go on the box set that comes out in 2240.
