Dave, having said I wouldn't plan what I'd say, you have at the very least given me some idea of where this particular English woman should start if I am stuck for words. What do you think of 'So, Joni, what's the weather like over here on the Sunshine Coast?" Richard Gere was one of the guests. Among the movies mentioned during the discussion was "An Officer and A Gentleman". And THAT reminded me of the best scene IN the movie. You know the scene I mean. Dressed in his dress whites, after graduation as a naval officer, the Richard Gere character marches into the factory ... right up the the girl he'd been seeing. She, thinking the relationship was over, is totally surprised as he kisses her, then picking her up in his arms, walks out of the factory. There's a freeze frame and the music comes up. The song, a Great! song, is "Up Where We Belong" How many of you knew the song was written by Buffy Sainte-Marie? And that Buffy rec'd an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for 'Best Original Song'. That's right! Buffy's got an Oscar. - - - - - - Buffy Sainte-Marie made an important contribution early in Joni's career. Along with Ian & Sylvia and Tom Rush, Buffy was one of the first singers to record Joni's songs, bringing her first songwriter royalties and publishing profits. It was Buffy Sainte-Marie who suggested to Joel Dean and Elliot Roberts that they go down to the Cafe Au Go Go and check her out. After hearing her perform, Elliot immediately expressed an interest in managing her career. The rest, as they say ... - - - - - - Once again I UpLoaded several recordings via YouSendIt. You can DownLoad them @ Here's what you'll find 1. Audio - the song "Up Where We Belong" 2. Video - the song "Up Where We Belong" w/ a short intro from the DVD "A Multimedia Life" 3. Video - another short segment from "A Multimedia Life" about Buffy's early days in Greenwich Village. This one includes JONI.
