It's called "Shadows And Light", just like the album. The first time I saw it was on Laserdisc, which might have been the first format it was released in. Anyway, it's readily available now in DVD. It's a great film, enjoy. There's some stuff there that didn't make the album like "Jaco's Solo". It would be unbelievable that such an event when unfilmed....I so so wish I could see some of it, if footage exists. - ------------------------------------------------------------ The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain proprietary, business-confidential and/or privileged material. Misc. words and phrases are sometimes changed between an early performance and the album version, but these changes are not usually that dramatic. OTOH: She removed the 3rd verse of "Conversation" from the LOTC recording, before release; And added a 5th verse to "Cactus Tree" As for "Cactus Tree" Although it's been widely bootlegged, I'm not sure many JMDL members are familiar with this particular recording, and why it's interesting and unique. It's the first public performance of a then new song "Cactus Tree" Here's how Joni introduced the song that night: "Cactus Tree" Introduction This song I just wrote today, so if you notice the melody sort of varies verse to verse. Its because I havent really decided on a few things, so Im throwing them all out at you. Everytime I hear whispering, Ill take that part out doesnt hold their attention there. There are several differences between this recording and the version eventually recorded for "SONG TO A SEAGULL". The verses appear in a different order ... AND, the last verse, the 'Killer Kyle' verse, is not yet been present. - - - - - - I transcribed and typed out the Lyrics as performed at the 2nd Fret, side-by-side with the lyrics from the Album. The Lyrics and the Song have been UpLoaded via YouSendIt. You can download both @ http://tinyurl.com/9jc4ypj - - - - - - By the time Joni performed at The Canterbury House in Ann Arbor, MI. (Oct. 27), she had completed "Cactus Tree". All verses were present as released on SONG TO A SEAGULL. However, she announced it as a new song titled "Cactus Flower" andmoreagain, - - - - - - - - - - simonM http://jonimitchell.com/chronology/ ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #1292 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list, sendtojoni@smoe.org.
