The choice of words aside I think the act of performing only what was current on her creative palette is something Joni continued to do, sometimes to the chagrin of her fans. Another example of this was her version of All I Want at what was called the "pink dress" performance. I'm hoping that my fumbling will continue to entice you to send us more of these marvelous emails, Simon!!! What I recall as clear as anything is that Joni always said when she came to it in her set was that UFG was absolutely her favorite of all the songs she'd written. Cool huh? Cheers - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ""Urge for Going" is actually the Third Song Joni ever Wrote (After "Day by Day" & "What will you give me?") and was so good that Chuck Mitchell then thought of starting a Publishing Company. " Urge for Going" was actually finished by September of 1965." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2012 07:18:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Flaherty Subject: Re: Joni appearance, for real. Okay, I am NOT saying this isn't real (how would I know?) and I am not saying people shouldn't go (it might be fun). However, this does remind me of the Joni thing in NYC a number of years ago. The promoters said Joni would be there, or at least it sounded that way. Then speculation here that she might play turned into guessing which songs she WOULD play (I'm pretty sure no one involved ever said she would be on stage.) And then she didn't come. Turns out she was (as I recall) invited, but she never said she would attend. Now I know some people had a great time, but some were pretty angry as well (some of it aimed at Joni, which wasn't fair). So all I'm saying is go to this if you'll have fun even if Joni doesn't show. And certainly don't go with the assumption that she'll do anymore than watch the movie with you. If it IS true, I can't wait to hear about it! If it were closer I'd check it out myself. :) Michael F. ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #1282 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list, sendtojoni@smoe.org.
