No? Well, I do! Thanks for these and for "White banners." I was thinking the film and/or novel it was based on were called "White flags", so wasn't able to find anything earlier on. I've downloaded all of these (oops, realize I already had "only love can break your heart") and will watch the film later. Definitely, there is more than love that can break your heart. In any case, it's probably not love, but loss of love that would do that, but "only love can mend it again." >________________________________ > From: "simon@icu.com" >To: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Monday, August 20, 2012 6:23:24 PM >Subject: Graham Nash - - Songs About Joni > >Previously, in reference to "Another Sleep Song, I said > > > Graham's solo Albums contain a number of songs about Joni. > > THIS isn't one of them. I like them because I can play them in the car, on the > computer, or at work. CDs? You haul around CDs, Jim? Tell me it's not true! I'm kidding, although once I got an iPod my "audio life" was completely changed. In 2008, I bought an iPod that has 80 GB of storage. (I know there are iPods with more, but I figured out that 80 GB would hold about 22,000 songs, and I will never have enough CDs -- or money to purchase songs online -- to fill my iPod's storage capacity.) The 2,554 songs it currently has represent more than a week of playing it on shuffle without repetition. (That does not take into account that some songs are duplicates due to being part of more than one of the CDs loaded onto it.) My most recent car had an audio jack that allowed me to plug it into the stereo. It was a plain old audio jack and not a USB jack that cars one year newer began to feature, which of course will shoot song title and artist to the car stereo's display window. Still, to be able to take my own "soundtrack" with me on the road, and so easily, was such a gift for me. Bringing that iPod with me to Europe was probably the single best decision I made about the entire journey. Having limited funds, I have not purchased much new (or even older) music lately, but I am happy enough with what I have on the iPod. > Some stuff, like Paul McCartney's RAM just sounds best on the record player. > Maybe you have to spend a bunch of money to hear the benefit of records. I disagree, although I'm sure that having a killer sound system improves the sound of any recording. My home stereo gear has always been quite "middle of the road" (or worse), and I still "get" the benefit of records. There is a difference, and it's still one that I appreciate.
