Sadly we all do, thanks to the arrival of the digital > age. The production credits for the box set are there in the liner > notes, for the reading. Nothing here is "remixed" however. And my take on the box can be found a few comments further down. My hi-fi is certainly good enough to display the differences between the two versions and I would argue that my head is also good enough to make a fair judgement about it. I would say that this reviewer hasn't been yet exposed to a good example of an original 80s tinny CD vs. great remaster. I still stand by what I wrote back then. Differences in sound level aside, I don't hear a big difference in sound quality. It says on the booklet: 'mastered from the original master tapes' which isn't the same as 'remastered'. They simply made a new master from the original tapes. And since they obviously used better A/D converters than in 1985, there is unavoidably some added clarity - but that is not the same as 'proper' remastering. Certainly the difference is nothing like on some (real) remasters, including the Joni remasters. And believe me, I would like for the box to sound better, as DED is one of my favourite Joni albums and the 1985 CD sounds thin (much like the box set version does). But I am glad that some people are impressed and can enjoy the music better than on the 80s or 90s CD's. - --jussi ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2012 #1151 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list, sendtojoni@smoe.org.
