I agree that it's out there to be found. I do think, though, that the scene is fractured, and while yes, there's "something gained" with the internet, there's "something lost" when we experience the music in our own little corners, instead of as part of the Zeitgeist, as markers in time that are points of commonality for us all. Much like the current discussion of the shared experience in the movie theatre, I think music is gains something when it's a shared experience. I remain unconvinced that the late 60s and early 70s weren't a golden time for music. Brilliantly talented musicians, working across a wide spectrum, being enjoyed by everyone. I'd like to invite those interested to check out my DJ work on my podcast page: http://davidmarine.podomatic.com/ There's a very wide variety of music there, from jazz to house to experimental, and the "When The River" podcast might be particularly interesting for those who want to hear some new artists. On another note, I wanted to applaud Robin, David, and the Mutts for the brilliant concert this fall (which I sadly missed but which I have been watching on youtube and plan on purchasing). I was lucky enough to enjoy the jam at Coyote Rick's this summer, but it didn't fully prepare me for how meticulously excellent the Blue/Court and Spark exploration would be. Happy New Year to all. My best to you! David ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2011 #815 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list, send to joni@smoe.org.
