You could buy a membership very cheaply and the cost to see a film was also at least half of what it would cost at a multiplex. Unfortunately, we no longer live in that neighbourhood. I believe there may be one or two not too far from where we live now, but I haven't checked. I agree with you, Mary, in some ways that sharing a film with an appreciative audience can sometimes add to the experience, especially if it's a comedy, although it can be weird if you're the only one laughing. The experience my son and I had on that particular occasion was really kind of unusual. I've been in cinemas with some kind-of-annoying people before, but that particular time was just weird. The film was "The Kiterunner," so not the kind of thing you'd think would attract the Very Annoying, (I would expect that more at some action flick, but you'd never catch me at one of those), and the place was packed, so there really wasn't anywhere else to sit (and we got there early and had our pick of seats, but then got surrounded by late-comers). As well, I'm so lazy, or maybe antisocial, that it's ridiculous. We have a cinema right across the street from where we live, but I just couldn't be bothered to go. However, if I do, I would probably see a show in the afternoon when there are fewer people or on the "cheap" nights (usually Tuesdays - they had cheap Tuesdays for quite a while, then cut it out but they've brought it back again.) There's another cinema not too far away (I thought it had closed down, but I believe they reopened it) that shows arty films or independent films, so we're not stuck with just the Top Ten. I'm sure a really big reason I don't go is that I just don't like being anywhere where there are lots of people. I suppose it's a phobia of some kind. If we do want to eat anything, we sneak our own food in, at 1/10 the cost. >________________________________ > From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" >To: Mary Morris >Cc: JONIMITCHELL DISCUSSION LIST >Sent: Tuesday, January 3, 2012 3:52:45 PM >Subject: RE: JMDL Digest V2011 #798 Off to the Movies NJC > >That's cool, Mary - hey, my first job was as an usher at the (now-defunct) >Cardinal Theater in Raleigh, NC (for a mighty $1.25/hour I might add).
