I was going to put it off but I said NO. I'm trying to get caught up so no excuses. Anyway, here is Joni Covers #137, another collection of tasty morsels for your consumption. As always, there are some standouts - Elly May Quintet's "All I Want" (very original take), Lisa Engelken's "Trouble Child" (with a Steely Dan edge to it), Duo's "Black Crow" and there's also a Shine cover ("If" from our pal and former JMDL'er Steve Polifka. "Dry Cleaner" done with a string quartet as opposed to a jazz combo - REALLY original! And only TWO BSN's, one a rarity from cult/outsider Merigail Moreland, unfortunately not the best quality but oh well. One of a couple tracks you can only find right here. Go get it: http://tinyurl.com/77y6h4e The songs what's on it: 1. Erna Ferry - Be Cool 2. Lisa Engelken - Trouble Child 3. Elly May Quintet - All I Want 4. Project Sing! - River 5. Bill Durst Band - Woodstock 6. Earthlings Electric Washboard Band - Big Yellow Taxi 7. Robert Mosci - The Circle Game (featuring Ingrid Michaelson) 8. Adrean Farrugia - Both Sides Now 9. Kat Zotos - River 10. Duo - Black Crow 11. Steve Polifka - If 12. Rigmor Gustafsson - The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines 13. Paul Harrington - Big Yellow Taxi 14. Barbara Porteus - I Had A King 15. Barbara Porteus - All I Want 16. Keaton Simons & Tony Lucca - A Case Of You 17. Ronan Keating - River 18. Merigail Moreland - Both Sides Now Hope you like it or some of it. I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't really dig some of these tracks and I'm sure Joni would be pleased too. Bob, I always appreciate your love of Joni coupled with your listening to so much that's new. You introduced Fleet Foxes to me. I have also been sent, during this past year, to all kinds of new artists via this list, which I really appreciate, too. Adele did, like Amy Winehouse, come through the Brit School (Fame style academy), where it looks like those who get a place get to hone their performance skills, but I really, like many others, really rate her. My favourite new album by a new artist this year has to be Ed Sheeran's +, which I have to confess I only bought because my friend Amy has written with him. He is only 20, but has built a solid fan base through gigging solidly for the past 4 years. I think he's a brilliant young song writer who combines many styles in his writing. What's interesting is that any shows I have seen him on he sings just with his guitar. And on one song he does mention he didn't go to Brit School! Brilliant. Fleet foxes I'd never heard of either...very good. Little Dragon my band of the year. Indeed some great stuff around.
