I got my DVD a couple of days ago, but last night was the first chance I had to play it. Immensely enjoyable, and quite a few surprises. Some songs are very faithful renditions, while others took the song in very exciting directions. Trouble Child/Twisted, California, Blue - All stands out for me, but all of them were first rate. One of my favorite moments of the concert, when Robin hinted at doing the same thing with Hissing and Hejira, and then Don Juan. I sure hope that happens. Standing O for Robin and the Mutts! Central Standard Time, beatntrack@sbcglobal.net writes: Well, our Blue/Court and Spark concert on Nov 6th was just rated #5 in the top 15 jazz concerts of 2011 in San Diego, CA by the concert blogger Robert Bush of the San Diego Reader amongst some serious competition, and ahead of Chick Corea and Gary Burton no less. We're stoked about this as it endorses how vital and contemporary Joni's music still is. We pulled out all the stops that night, with an eight piece lineup negotiating some elaborate transcriptions of two very famous albums. Here's Robert's list: http://tinyurl.com/7xdpd77 The entire show was filmed and lovingly mixed by yours truly, resulting in a 94 min DVD of which we have only a limited number of copies. If you'd like one please head on over to www.robinadler.com/products.html Special thanks, as always, to the JMDL for supporting our endeavors to keep Joni's music before a live audience. I did backdrops for school plays, I was always involved in illustrating the yearbooks. I designed a UNICEF Christmas card for a guy who was like the school leader, the senior watchman. He reimbursed me with a Miles Davis album." I'm not sure that the link will be working...B http://jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=13&from=search Even if not consciously acknowledged as an influence, at least back in the sixties, she should have been absorbing Miles soundB Sometimes she would seem to refer to him in order to show that she shares a path similar to his, in some way, as well as artistic freedom... Didn't she compare herself to him and Picasso recalling that every time they changed their style (and woman) they had been harshly criticized? I got mine on Monday, I haven't watched it yet as this has been a crazy week thus far and I want to watch it when I can really savor it. Based on the videos I've seen online I'm anxious to watch it, especially on a large screen with a nice stereo system pushing Dave's immaculate sonics. And Dave - now you can advertise the Mutts as "better than Chick Corea".
