I've done that. To make it worse, I even try to maintain a list of what I've got, even including on what medium (CD or i-tunes - used to have LP and cassette on there until I got rid of them). But I keep forgetting to update the list and I don't carry it with me so, if I'm in a record store (remember those?) and I spot something at a good price, I can't remember if I have that one or not. It's particularly problematic when it's someone who has a lot of albums and I know I have most of them, but can't remember which ones I don't have, and can't remember if it's something I used to have on LP that needs replacing or, for that matter, whether my ex might have walked off with it. I swear to god, at one time or another, I'm sure I had three copies of Marvin Gaye's "What's goin' on", but I can't find any of them now. This makes downloading from I-tunes that much easier to do, because you figure it's easier to buy 'em that way than to try to look for the CD you think you have. >________________________________ > From: Robert Procyk >To: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Sunday, November 27, 2011 2:10:18 AM >Subject: impulse buying njc > >Ok, reason you know you are getting old #1431: You are cruising itunes and it's late at night and you are in a nostalgic mood, and you start downloading, and after you confirm the purchase, you realize that you ALREADY OWN THE RECORDING on cd. >... > >TGIS, > >Rob ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Nov 2011 18:19:00 -0500 (EST) From: FMYFL@aol.com Subject: Re: hello my old friend - (njc) Thanks so much for sharing that incredible story Patrick. It brought tears to my eyes. Jack was the first person I met at a Jonifest....I think it was 2000, when he chauffeured everyone for Paz. I just thought he was a fun and sweet friend of Michael's. It wasn't til the concert that he sang "Blue Boy", that I realized he was so talented. I got to see him again at the 2003 fest, and he was so amazing. I sure miss him, and I played his CD today. Thanks for sharing your wonderful story. Jimmy, who is trying to catch up with all the posts. I don't really have a shared experience as I don't buy from I-tunes except for Joni covers, and most of those I pick up from Amazon instead. My impulse buys are never for old music but rather for new. Thanks to Rhapsody (and now Grooveshark), if I have an urge for spinning an old album I didn't upgrade to CD I can do so without having to buy it (although Rhapsody costs me $10/month). I've gotten better about spinning a new album a time or two as well before I purchase. I have daily reminders that I am getting old but thankfully #1431 isn't one of them. Michael, you do realize that's what is currently happening, yes? Joni has little if anything to do with www.jonimitchell.com or the JMDL. It's all on Les (and those of us who can contribute $$ from time to time to help pay the bills). I listened to songs and samples at both the JackNeilson.com website and at CDBaby. Jack has such a warm voice, matched with crisp, clean guitar playing. Very nicely produced as well. It's wonderful that he has a daughter to carry on his writing legacy, and a friend like Paz to continue to make it all happen.
