I still watch Scooby Doo and eat candy and I did get asked for ID at a Walmart in Montana this summer), turkey has ALWAYS been the holiday meal of choice. Every Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and other special occasion, a full turkey dinner with all the bells and whistles is expected. My in-laws go the extra mile and also cook a ham on these occasions. I hated, hated, HATED ham until about 5 years ago. Now? Whenever Costco comes out with those spiral hams for the various holidays? I fill my freezer with them and make perogies and ham as a treat. However, unlike Catherine, I love cooking turkeys and the whole thing. The more elaborate, the better. And since i am Ukrainian, this usually means, in addition to turkey and stuffing and all the trimmings, cabbage rolls and perogies. And I am not a foodie or a foodie snob, so I actually PREFER my cranberries in jelly form, with the can ridges. As for Bob's itty-bitty weight gain: I seem to lose and gain the SAME FREAKING 50 LBS every damn year. This means that I will spend about 6 months eating compulsively healthy, exercising, wearing my skinny clothes, etc. Then something happens, I eat and drink myself into a stupor, and then I start over again. I was good for quite a while this year, and I was slowly gaining some weight back, but then i got the stomach flu and lost like 12 lbs. THEN, 3 weeks ago, my father passed away and while for most people, grief makes eating hard to do, I have been the complete opposite, and I am afraid to step on the scale. However, tomorrow is a new day. As long as i stay away from pork and poultry, it's all good. Happy Thanksgiving, Americans!
