NJC Hi Sue I was so mesmerized with PG's concert in 2010 that i went to London for the taping of the CD/DVD last march. All i can say is this: many artists have done a symphonic orchestra tour/album since the late 60's i think (Procol Harum, Deep Purple come to mind). Sometimes, as was the case with Sting last year, it's only an orchestra playing the song and i find it quite boring. What makes Peter's outstanding in my opinion is that he's adapted his material for the orchestra, it's a totally new arrangement and a cohesive and creative work. Of course Joni did that too... I don't think anybody will be disappointed in this New Blood material. I find it breathtaking. Laurent From: Susan Tierney McNamara Subject: Peter Gabriel's New Blood ... NJC Hi, My favorite internet radio station AuralMoon.com was playing cuts of Peter Gabriel's new album "New Blood" which is a collection of what he calls "re-imagined arrangements" of his more popular songs ... he also includes a 5-minute ambient sound recording (oh I'm so excited!) ... I couldn't help but think he was taking a page out of Joni's late career "Travelogue" sessions. I heard two cuts, "Don't Give Up (with Ane Brun)" and "In Your Eyes" and liked what I heard ... I'm looking forward to downloading it soon. Anyone else hear this? http://petergabriel.com/newblood/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Nov 2011 18:13:38 +0100 From: "Laurent Olszer" Subject: Peter Gabriel's New Blood ... While they are doing their work, of course! So, I decided that when I play "big yellow taxi," when ever the students sing "shooooo bop bop bop bop," I throw them pink double bubble gum. They love it and you should see how cute they look. The are 9 - 12th grade city kids. Big smiles from them. They always liked this song in general. I am trying to teach them that no matter how much you may or may not appreciate things/people/situations/trees/etc. that you really. . . . "don't know what you got 'til it's gone." Love to you, joni friends. hAPPy bIRTHDay Joni! I love Me'Shell, though I've not heard anything really stunning from her in a while. She played at the tribute at Carnegie Hall and I was excited to see her on the program. Unfortunately she is over-sensitive to light or something, she came out wearing a hoodie, stared at the floor mostly, complained about the sound and the light, and I can't even remember which song she did. I assume that a full show from her would include light and sound she's comfortable with and your experience will be much better. Susan Boyle sings Both Sides Now on Joni's birthday on an ITV daytime chat/magazine show. Subo is a kind of guilty pleasure - she lives just up the road from here. I enjoy Simon Mayo's BBC Radio 2 Drive-time show, 5-7pm week days. On his blog page he asks for song suggestions re a current topic - today's being songs for the languishing euro. I try most days to fit a Joni song into the list - usually at a stretch. For the beleaguered euro I've suggested How Do You Stop - like I said, a stretch. Was wondering if JMDLers could check out the site now and again and pitch in some ideas, so we can get more Joni on the radio. Simon's blog is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b016vx7z I'm no. 16 today. So here's my take on River: Lea Michelle sounds lovely, but clueless. The piano is really good, though...touching in its imperfection. (like every high school choir room piano, not polished, but played with some skill) Obviously, it can't compete with the original, so I hope the track leads many new fans to Blue.
