I'll add the story I've told before for Bene's (Hi Bene!) and others. Way back when I visited Donal's website and asked him about this track. He said that he was on the East Coast folk circuit with Joni at the time and she gave him a tape recording of the song she had made. He recorded it based on that tape (which he said he still had, and no he wasn't willing to share it). He was a really nice guy and still is on the East Coast and active. Midnight Cowboy is my all-time favorite flick so it's especially cool to know that Joni wrote a song for it, even if it wasn't used. My understanding is that she was hanging out on the west coast with the screenwriter at the time and that's how she was solicited to contribute a tune.
