I'm very glad you shared them. I have put mine into the flickr set that I created following the 2008 fest. The current batch start near the end of the page with a pic of Anita and Steph. GARRET NP - Noah and the Whale, L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Sep 2011 05:56:07 -0700 (PDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Back from Holycombe OK, I'll do this. Why the heck not? I can pretty much echo what Bene says: this Jonifest was very low key in terms of music and, although it featured some excellent singing and playing by those who know what they're doing, equal time was given to some often hilarious and cacaphonous singalongs by the rest of us - some of it intentional. Some of the musical highlights for me, and I know I'm leaving things out: - - Willie the Shake and Les Ross singing "Yvette in English." - - Martin singing Roy Zimmerman's "Liberal." - - Mike P's interpretive signing as Lucy sang "Tam Lin." - - Lucy doing "Vincent/Starry starry night" in English music-hall style. - - Garret doing "Molly Malone" in a Tom Waits voice that then developed a thick Dublin accent, with Lucy providing questions that he then answered, still keeping to the song lyrics (I'm still laughing at that.) - - All of us mangling "Baker Street", complete with caterwauling sax. - - Frequent requests to sing, yet once again, "Dreams," because "Patrick loves it" (NOT!) (At this point, I will declare that I don't like that song either, although my complete loathing of it has subsided over time - it's just too much energy to maintain the hate, but what particularly rankles me is the line, "When the rain washES you clean, you'll know." How awkward is that?) Non-musical highlights: - - A LONG trek for five of us that we thought would take 20 minutes, but that turned into over three hours, to the Rollright Standing Stones. Still, we did make it there! (Can you feel the ENERGY?) Then, after another 20-30 minute walk, arriving at a pub and learning that we were yet a good three miles from Holycome and the gallant Mr Ross offered to walk all the way back and get his car to collect us, while the rest of us (four) remained at the Red Lion for a pint or two of real English ale. After about an hour, Les and Lucy arrived in their cars and got us back to the Norman Knight in time for more pints and delicious dinner - a car ride of less than five minutes. - - Lots and lots of good food provided by and often cooked by Lucy, the Queen of absolutely f*cking everything - - Beautiful scenery everywhere. In fact, sometimes it was just too pretty, like a movie set that idealizes things, but pinch yourself and it's still there. I want to thank Bene for being a perfect room mate, and for waking me from my bizarro nightmare I had the first night there. Fortunately, there were no repeats of night terrors. I swear, Bene, this isn't a normal thing for me! In addition, I want to thank Lieve for putting me up and putting up with me in London for a few days after I landed and before we headed off to Holycome, and to Lucy for taking me back to her place afterwards, for the beautiful walk on the beach because I just HAD to see the ocean, and for making sure I got on the right train to get back to the airport the next morning. Last and certainly not least, all thanks to Lucy for her incredible organizing skills, for having put this thing together, and for maintaining her wonderful sense of humour throughout. I know I would have had a meltdown even trying to put together tea for a group and there she was, cooking up masses of food for dinners and holding it all together. Cheers, LUCY! >________________________________ >From: B Lux >To: Joni List >Sent: Friday, September 2, 2011 9:26:45 AM >Subject: Back from Holycombe > >Hello all, > >I think it's about time to write a report and extend my thanks to all >who came to Holycombe, and especially Lucy whose efforts had such a >beautiful result. > >There aren't many reports this time, I guess facebook has eaten some >of them, but it's also because this was a fairly relaxed and low-key >Jonifest, as you can see from the many beautiful photos that have been >posted.
