I thought though that Paul Gambuccini's comments on the subject were silly and detracting. Good on the uk voters though for doing such a fine job and getting our Joni up there just ahead of Kate Bush who in my mind is more Irish than "Quintessentially English" as P Gambuccini suggested. I know she is English but hardly quintessentially so. A fine testament indeed to Radio 4 listeners and a joy for us Joni lovers. For anyone who didnt get the chance to tune in Piaf and Ella Fitzgerald came a wee bit further down the poll. Some of these are really cool. I've always loved the simple line drawing with all that "stuff" in what looks like a shawl over Joni's knee for "Ladies of the Canyon." It's a very simple drawing, but so obviously Joni. I also liked the design for Portugal the Man and The Flaming Lips, and I enjoy Cat Stevens'/Yusuf's art too. Plus, you've got to love a band name like "b&And You Will Know Us By The Trail of The Dead". - ----- Original Message ---- > From: Happy The Man > To: joni list > Sent: Fri, June 17, 2011 12:05:28 PM > Subject: Paste Magazine list Joni #1 for Cover Art. > >http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2011/06/10-musicians-who-create-album-art.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter >r > > Peace, Craig > > NP: Adele - Someone Like You ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jun 2011 20:18:21 +0100 From: gerard mclaughlin Subject: Re: Little Joni in Saskatoon Thankyou, Michael> Please give my love to Saskatoon while you're there. Obviously she never released it but she did a demo of it which she shared with an east coast folk artist named Donal Leace who DID record and release it. I communicated with him, he still has the tape but didn't want to share it. You can find the track way back on Volume #14. Leace was a regular at the Cellar Door in D C (he lived upstairs). I saw Joni there in 1968. Anyway, he was visiting Statesboro a couple of years ago and inscribed his 1972 lp containing the song. Roberta Flack produced it--or at least wrote the the liner notes. My internet is out so forgive forgive typos. Not good at phone texting.
