I like your description of places and spaces. It's probably my favorite of all, although it usually seems like my favorite Joni album is the one that's playing. One of the things about THOSL that caught my attention is that Joni wrote a bunch of portraits of other people. Not everything is a about Joni and that seems like a badge of maturity. (Would you rather hear "Blue Motel Room"?) I agree with Monica's assessment (below) too. That said, I think "Coyote" (on Hejira) is one of Joni's best. I'm glad to have both albums and enjoy them both. Jim L'Hommedieu Monica said in part, > It has that many layers for me. I think it comes from an interesting perspective that is Psychologically fascinating. Musically, there are a lot of different elements. Joni really experimented on this album and I applaud her for it. Also, I could not live without Sweet Bird or Harry's House.> ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Jun 2011 08:53:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Eliza's Slouching (njc) Thanks for mentioning that one, Paul. I recently got her new CD and thought the same, and wonder if she's a Joni fan. Regardless of whether she is or not, I love Eliza! - ----- Original Message ---- > From: Paul Castle > To: joni@smoe.org > Sent: Sat, June 4, 2011 10:45:09 AM > Subject: Eliza's Slouching (njc) > > When I first saw the track listing for Eliza Gilkyson's > new album 'Roses At The End Of Time', I thought > she must have done a pretty deep cover - but it > turns out to be one of her own songs - sounds very > Tom Waits to me. > > Slouching Towards Bethlehem > http://youtu.be/gZMJhBrSWkA > > Really like her song 'Midnight on Raton - > http://blip.fm/~1547q4 > > Best to all > PaulC ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2011 #164 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list, send to joni@smoe.org.
