I guess you must be too much in love with Joni to even look at another woman who bears a resemblance....just kidding. Just like many artists, they have commercial songs for radio and i share your dislike for those. But when you dig beyond the surface sometimes you find mud and sometimes a gem. Another interesting aspect of your post is a question that i ask myself on regular basis: Sometimes when i meet hardcore fans of an artist i love (e.g. Peter Gabriel) i am surprised to discover that we have no other musical taste in common whatsoever. All the other artists those fans like i dislike and vice versa. This happened a few weeks ago when i had a nice chat with Rachel Z, and some other fans at a PG gig. Has anyone experienced the same and do they have an insight? With you Bob it is a little like that but not totally, we both love Joni of course but some of your other bands (Death Cab, XTC) are not my cup of tea. But we still have several tastes in common. I am referring to people with whom i have no other taste in common except 1 artist whom we both cherish. I've found that with some JMDler's the diagram is almost a total overlap (like Jody for instance) and with other folks they barely make contact. But that's cool, it's all good. I mean the reason the JMDL exists is we have a common sensitivity, and i've felt it in all the jmdlers i've ever met or read. So logic would tell me that this common love for such an original artist as Joni would translate into at least somewhat similar musical tastes. So how do you explain when there is nothing in common music-wise except Joni?
