Now we have all seen and heard female singers who try to sound like our favorite artist. Tina Dico is not trying at all, she has the same spirit. Last month she played in France for the 1st time. Her March solo gig was cancelled due to no sales and she came back in April to open for someone else. It was like a Viking who came to conquer a strange audience, amazing. All during the show I was not only mesmerized but all I could think of was the energy of the "pink dress" 70 BBC concert. I filmed the concert in almost broadcast quality and I've created a compilation dvd by adding Tift Merritt's Paris solo gig from last February. The 2 follow each other like a match made in heaven. I would be happy to share this dvd with the List by starting a vine. The dvd is in PAL but I can make it in NTSC if you want. Tina's solo performance is incredible and much stronger emotionally than all the clips on youtube I encourage you to make up your mind by checking out: http://www.myspace.com/tinadico an older performance. Now she's more mature but this was the opening track of the concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov4_L2G0qWE &feature=related Laurent ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 May 2011 15:34:43 -0700 From: Subject: Re: Arthur Lee and Gene Clark Bands record party (no Joni but Laurel Canyon related) That is a fantastic find, Paul! Dime rules won't let me pair 2 unrelated artists. Since I enjoyed watching this compilation so much I decided it was worth sharing with the Jmdl. I will upload Tina "alone" on Dime later. Since I couldn't bring my external hard drive full of music to China, I stream RadioParadise when I'm at work. Every so often a song will come on that I like and I'll click on the website to see who it is. By the same token, when a song I strongly dislike comes on, I do the same. There was a stretch when the songs I disliked were ALL Tina Dico songs, so now it's like a Pavlov's Dog reaction - whenever I hear "Tina Dico" I think of really bad music that I don't care much for. No offense intended. I originally heard that audio on a bootleg I got from Catgirl (hello Catgirl wherever you are) and it's since been released on the complete Last Waltz boxset. You can tell from the video that Joni is kind of winging it but that makes it cool, gives it a Jonifest feel. Plus I imagine she and Neil were trippin' pretty good anyway at the time.
