As always, I agree with Bob's assessments. I thought Haley's performance was the surprise of the night. American Idol has bounced back with fierceness. It seems a whole lot less cheesy and much more entertaining. Casey made the Maroon 5 one tolerable for me. I can't stand them, although that particular song doesn't irk me as much as most of their stuff, and I liked Casey's version. Is this an effort to get people excited about the tour? Or just filling time? Casey - Gave a poppy song a bit of teeth. Nicely done. Good for him for the J-Lo smooch! You can't win if you're not willing to risk it all. Haley - Love the Adele version; also like the David Cook live cover. But Haley did a good job and will get votes for the song. Jacob - Totally expected a train wreck. Almost saw one. Thinking he should pack his bags and head for Broadway where he might have a future. James - Wow. One of the all time impressive vocal performances. Shifting octaves like that is so hard. And he nailed it. Actually sent him a few votes - first time I've voted this season Stefano - na-na-na-na na-na-na-na hey-hey-hey... Laurend and Scotty - Why am I lumping them together? Because they were very tame country bookends to the show. Both performances were way too safe and didn't have the spark you need at this point in the competition. I'm not sure they'd even actually win the local karaoke with these. Who's going home? I think Stefano. Who's going to win? I suppose there may be the odd exception. Some of the duets are fine. Most of the group numbers are hokey (or is that hoaky?) beyond all belief. I don't remember them ever bringing back kicked-off idol-wannabes for that sort of thing. Despite that, I actually think the girls did a pretty good job, for that kind of thing, but then they brought Scotty into the mix. WTF? His voice was totally unsuited to the song, didn't fit in with the girls' voices whatsoever, and came across as if he had just spontaneously decided the crash the song. And he was off key as well. I # normally # obey with Adobe and take their updates, and nothing seems to go # wrong. But I # have no idea why I would need Java updates, I don't even know why I # have Java to # begin with and what I would use it for, so every day, even several # times each # day, I have to close Java update reminders that keep pestering me. # Does anyone # know if this could be a cause of my computer slowness, and what is # the best way # to deal with it? # # Again, many thanks in advance. # Lieve in London # # ----- Original Message ---- # From: Lieve Reckers # To: ron g ; Michael quebec ; # joni@smoe.org # Sent: Tue, 19 April, 2011 10:04:24 # Subject: Re: njC computer virus software ? # # Thanks Ron, and Marian, Anne, Catherine, Jerry, Hell and everybody # else who has # sent advice. # # I hope it has helped Michael, the original "asker", as much as it has # me. # # Ron, I recognise the issues you mention, but strangely enough I opted # for Avast # freeware (after having run Norton or Mc Afee for many years) over AVG # because I # read in one review that it was lighter to run! Also, as you say much # depends on # # when they do their scanning, and I have the feeling that Avast is # scanning all # the flipping time! In the end I have come to the conclusion that what # works on # one computer, just does not work on another, because of the # configuration of # everything else that is there, and that this is much more typical for # Windows # than for Apple or Linux (which I have on a small netbook that I use # to travel). # # So I think I will have to take the medicine you prescribe and do # exactly as you # say in your last paragraph. Or I may ask my eldest son to do it for # me as an # alternative birthday present! # Lieve in London # # PS So good to have lured so many good names out of lurkdom with this # topic! # That's a fantastic result! # # ------------------------------ # # Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2011 22:49:31 +0000 (GMT) # From: Anne Sandstrom # Subject: Re: Re: NJC one more computer question # # I don't know anything about JavaRa.
