Gosh, I have found it painful watching Paul, too. I just cannot understand the teeth and his strange puppet movement. How I have longed for Mr Cowell to comment honestly on Paul rather than hearing from the judges 'You SO Nailed it!' Muller, your reviews always save me writing because you say just what I think. And as the person who picked Casey to win, I have to say I have been really perturbed by the unfortunate grin/growl you and Catherine mention he has developed. It is horrible. Trying way to hard. My favourite moment this week, which surprised me, was Hayley scatting in the results show with Casey. She did a little semi-tone in a run that blew me away. I really have liked this year's show because there is such a mixture of young people who could be great in different areas of music. And they are SO young and so proficient. The only down side is the sychophantic judges. Who needs them? Anyway, out you go Muller to Paul Sings Joni in Beijing. Now there's a night out! I'm a having a little private one here in CT, and I make you welcome in. A round resounding for you way up here, dearest David! He was a man after my own heart and mind, and many others, I know. I never had the good fortune to meet him in person, but we had many lovely, private exchanges that always left me singing "love is touching souls and surely you touched mine" and smiling. He certainly had heart and humor and humility, affection and respect, and a lot of passion for peace and Joni. In the spirit of "love is a story told", here is one of his messages, written many dim years ago (06/10/2007). I don't think he'd mind me sharing it, because he wrote "I would post this to the list...." "Hey friend of spirit and fellow CodePink member. I had to let you know that I heard on CNN Headlne News this morning that Cindy's Camp Casey in Crawford Texas was bought by radio show host Bree Walker to keep as a monument for PEACE. Back in 1974 in Kansas City I was going through a divorce and attending art school and had to give up my beautiful Old English Sheepdog Abbygale so I called the local rock station dialing the number who's bound to love you. Bree Bashaw(now Walker) was on the air and she heard my plea as I sent up my prayers. She was going to advertise it on the air so I took the dog to meet her and the bond was instant. She kept the dog and while she was in the area I was able to visit her and Abbygale and sit around and get high and listen to Joni. She is truly a great soul and this just confirms it for me. I would post this to the list but I wanted it to be more personal to you! Peace&Love to you on the 40th anniversary of the summer of love! oxox Mingus" Oh, this is hard. This marbled bowling ball needs good souls like David. He will be so missed, yet forever loved. I know it's too late to recommend music for the service, but I just want to second that emotion of Stephen's. All I Want works at times like this, believe it or not. When I got the email from Ashara that Smurf passed away "in the wee hours of the morning" on that February 6th, I was at work and had to leave. Even though you know it's coming, it still stabs you in the heart. I had to go home and cry and cry and cry. Jody/BG1 called and I told her I was canceling my evening plans. I was supposed to go to a little birthday celebration with some friends and kin at our local Mermaid Cafe. She urged me to still go, that Smurf would want me to. Emely Anne was playing (our Bob Muller wrote a good review here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/emelyanne ) and she does a few Joni covers and other great songs from the 60s and 70s. I wiped away my tears and got the urge for going. I planned to ask her to play Bobby McGee for him. But when I walked in, they were already playing it. I sat down and shared my awful news. Emely Anne came up to say hello during intermission and I asked her to dedicate All I Want to Smurf. She asked her band members if they could do it, and I saw them nod. She started their second set: "This song is dedicated to Patti's friend Bob "Smurf" Murphy who passed away this morning of pancreatic cancer in Massachusetts General Hospital." It was perfect. We all sang along and I dedicated it with All My Loving to our Bobby. I texted Jody and she wrote back: "Applause, applause, life is our cause....that makes my heart sing. xopbjxoxo" (I hope you don't mind that I shared that, Beej.) So I'm singing that now. "I want to make you feel free, I want to make you feel free..." as everyone takes their seats and gets ready to celebrate the wonderful life of David Mingus. I'm sure it will be a beautiful service and I'm with you all in spirit. A special comforting hug to David Rolls who had 30 years of solid love with a wonderful man. "For youth shall pass and time is wise, And countless seasons turn, So day by day our years increase Until at last by life released, Our spirits shine like stars." Shine on, David & Smurf and ALL of our dear departed friends and family. You are unforgettable. We carry your torch. We are stardust. We are golden. "Peace&Love" a la Mingus, Patti P. P.S. to Mags: Thanks for sharing the "love is a story told" of his planting a tree for your brother. Beautiful. Maybe because it has "Moon" in it! But I swear I did not think of that until after I typed it out. I just think it could sound really interesting on electric guitar with some of those loop things. As you can see, I'm very articulate. Right, because if that were the only factor in which song to choose, the better choice would probably be Moon at the Window? And speaking of Emely Anne - don't know if I mentioned it here yet, but she put out another record this year with covers of Coyote & Hejira on it. Yep, she's a true fan, this one.
