It is incredibly well done. I was very surprised at how emotional I got watching it. It isn't nostalgia, but at the realization of the purity of the times and music that has passed us. But I think you misunderstood me. I don't mean Christine did that cover herself, but she chose it for this programme, playing clips of Joni's own versions. At least I think she did choose NRH among several other ones... You would make me doubt everything! And I can't go and check it now, have to run and all that. Stil, you can now hear it for yourself, so do enjoy! The band was amazing, Thomas Bartlett, who produced the album, music directed from the upright piano. Brad Albetta, (who is Martha Wainwright's husband) on bass, with Jack Petruzzelli (of the Fab Faux) on guitars, and Dave Berger on drums. Justin was just amazing and brilliant in the 2 and a half hour show. Court and Spark's delivery was magical. One lyric was changed while singing (though not on the album): it was sung last night as: "Love came to my door With a sleeping roll And a madman's soul He thought for sure I'd seen him Dancing up a river in the dark Looking for a tranny To court and spark". It was very apropos. I talked with Brad afterwards for awhile, mostly about the Wainwright/McGarrigle clan, and the upcoming Kate McGarrigle Tribute concerts in NYC on May 12 and 13 (of which Justin Bond is a part). The concerts are going to be filmed by Lian Lunson, the same filmmaker/director who made the film "I'm Your Man" of the Leonard Cohen concert the family did awhile back. Performers lined up, so far, for the NYC tribute shows are, besides Justin: Teddy Thompson, Rufus and Martha (of course), Anna McGarrible, Jimmy Fallon, Norah Jones, Emmy Lou Harris, Antony, and Krystee Warren. Yes, I am going. There are still some tickets available, not a lot, but some. Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters was in the audience last night, he's flown into SF for the next 2 months to work on the musical "Tales of The City". I had a total fan girl moment in the lobby when I ran into him, and had a hug and a little chat about the musical... ! ~Richard On Tue, Mar 29, 2011 at 9:32 PM, Bob Muller wrote: > Hey Richard, thanks for that. And what an absolutely wonderful programme it is! I can't wait to hear Dave Blckburn's take on it. And so good, Paul, that you have now made it available outside the UK. I remember listening to the full program at the time and have had the podcast on my mp3 player ever since. I'm pretty sure someone on this list tipped me off about it, as usual. As far as I can remember the podcast was pretty much the whole program except that the music tracks are cut short which is a little frustrating but it's still makes a good listen. It's nice to have something to practice on when traveling, it's small and not very valuable. If stolen, it's not the end of the world. There's always something like the Martin Backpacker ($200), a true acoustic, skinny dulcimer shaped, but if someone sits on it, it's all over.... Washburn makes a similar product for $135, and there is another by Johnson for $99-can't tell if that one is nylon stringed. See them on Amazon. The Soloette is definitely a cool looking instrument, looks well made, considerably more expensive than the above axes (axi?).
