Really, nothing moved me last night. I've been a James fan, but his "Gently Weeps" was, for me, very bland, like how Paul Anka or Mel Torme would handle it. It's a travel guitar that you can take apart and carry in a very small case, so you could take it on a plane as carry-on luggage for example, but supposedly it has the feel of a "real" guitar, even if it looks kinda weird. I'm thinking of buying one because you have the option of playing it with headphones so you can play/practice without disturbing anyone, and you can also plug it into an amp if you wanna make some noise. Any reviews I've read have been good, but I'm not sure if anyone sells them here. I do remember seeing them some years ago in the music store where my son was taking guitar lessons though, so am going to check to see if they still have any. Their website is here: http://www.soloette.com/index.php ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Apr 2011 07:38:24 -0700 From: Dave Blackburn Subject: Re: Question for guitar players NJC Catherine, These look clever and perhaps play well too but $1200-1450US is really steep. If you just want to practice quietly you could 1) play a solidbody electric unplugged or plugged into a practice amp with headphone jack or 2) shut the door! If you do in fact need to take it on a plane, there are many other brands of travel guitars for less money and many solid body electrics such, as the Fender Strat, can be taken apart. The neck bolts on with four screws and you can leave the strings on in transit. Hope this is helpful. It's politics - the Democrats want to cut money out of the Federal Budget, the Republicans want a higher number. Neither side wants to appear weak so they're basically playing a game of chicken. The last time it happened was during the Clinton administration. Mark is exactly right in that their posturing and antics DO have serious consequences...essential services remain but many "non-essential" services would be furloughed. National Parks and such would close, etc. Seems really crazy that there's never any debate over flexing our muscles to execute acts of war versus flexing our heart to make sure that those who cannot provide for themselves in our country are properly provided for. A simple shift of the tax rates could resolve everything, but since those people and businesses at the top are in control that simple path is not an option. Much easier to cut services for the poor and defenseless who have no voice.
