I vaguely recall seeing it on VH1 back in the day. It's difficult to recognize anybody in this video--looks like a VCR-taped-off-the-TV copy--but one can make out the bearded (and tall!) Lee Sklar on bass, and the inimitable backing singer par excellence, Rosemary Butler, playing some sort of percussion (and not singing). Thanks for the reminder--I need to check out the entire album. Coincidently, when I consulted allmusic.com just now to check out Mark-Leon's question (below), their album of the day was Taylor's FLAG. (Which their reviewer somewhat unjustly panned). "I was so excited when this came out on James' album, That's Why I'm Here. The whole album is one of my favourites. James reciprocated on Joni's album, Dog Eat Dog. On the song, Good Friends. Not sure if they then helped out Don Henley. Does anyone know." According to allmusic's credits for all four Don Henley solo albums, neither Joni or James appeared on any of them. Larry Klein, however, is among the bass players credited on all but Henley's first album. And finally, I was not familiar w/the Seal song, so I looked it up on YouTube. This is not the version that someone (Kate?) asked about, but it's a very good recording. Thanks much for this, too. Seal has a wonderful voice--he hit the scene at a time when I wasn't listening to much new music, and I was undoubtedly less compelled to explore his records because of the prevailing use of synths and such at the time. The piano that starts off this song is gorgeous, but the overall production (keyboard and drum sounds especially) leaves me colder than ever, and sounds quite dated to my ears. Just my personal preference. I'm going to check out his recent work in hopes that he's going for a more, uh, organic sound these days. ;-) Here's the only clip I could find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daRMiPsmdTA Terra > > > --- On Mon, 2/21/11, kbhla@fastmail.fm wrote: > > > From: kbhla@fastmail.fm > > Subject: Rare video James, Joni and Don Henley > > To: joni@smoe.org > > Received: Monday, February 21, 2011, 9:11 PM > > Found this rare video of James Taylor > > singing "Only One" with Joni and Don > > Henley singing backup. At least from a non technical, listener's point of view. Human Being is one of my favourite albums. In fact, there are several songs Joni's vocals would have suited well. Songs like, "State of Grace", "Lost My Faith" and "Latest Craze". "When a Man Is Wrong" stands out out as one of Seal's greatest efforts. My deepest sympathy to the people of New Zealand. Australia is working closely with our close neighbours to get people out as quickly as possible and with financial aid. All the New Zealanders in Sydney are glued to TVs for the latest news. My flatmate included. It was a fine thing for Air New Zealand to offer $50 humanitarian flights to Australians to get back home while, our own airline, QANTAS were gouging people at over $900 for the flight. Outrageous. She was one of the better Weekend Update anchors on SNL (Jane Curtin was the best, imo, not being a Chevy Chase fan) and I loved her spot-on lampooning of someone I believe I'm currently ignoring so I won't mention her name. But....I just don't find '30 Rock' all that funny. Maybe it's because I don't really 'watch' it as much as hear it. I'm usually sitting here at the computer while it's on the TV. Maybe you have to watch and listen to really 'get' it. But now I have to admit, I had several lol moments listening to Tina's Joni parody. Her singing is surprising!
