I'm sorry it looked like spam. Really it wasn't. It was an email to announce a conference to be held on April, 2, 2011 in Austin, TX on Morgellons. This is such a serious and debilitating condition (I have it too) and I had corresponded with a couple of you back around the time when Joni first announced on billboard that she had this. We are a struggling grass roots organization working hard to gain recognition, funds for research, and hopefully effective treatment of a condition that wrecks lives and has certainly messed up the quality of life for lots of people including our dear one and only Joni Mitchell. There are silver linings in every situation I suppose because if I did not have Morgellons and run an organization to gain help for the condition I would never have known the kind gentle nurturing person that created all the fabulous music that we all know and love. Joni is doing a little better but it's up and down with all of us. As Joni Mitchell fans, I hope that any of you who are able will become active in helping our fight for medical recognition, research, and treatment. Joni and all of us who have this life altering disease need the support of those who care and may be willing to help us by raising funds for research and raise public awareness. I apologize for the 'spammy' look when that email came in. I hope that you all won't mind if I drop in from time to time to give an update or announcement about Morgellons related events. Anthony (a great book for emotional balance) and The Laws of Change: I Ching and the Philosophy of Life by Jack Balkin. I think the Balkin book is my favorite ... It does a great job of distilling the Wilhelm translation into a more contemporary guide. I also use the I Ching Workbook R. L. This morning's reading was a question about my best attitude at work and I receive Hex 8 Union, changing lines 5 and 6 changing to Hex 23 Splitting Apart ... hmmm ominous! :-) Great topic!! This is a 4 star property and still an amazing rate. Personally I plan on arriving on the day before Aug 16 and 17 and depending on further mini-fest developments and my work schedule, could extend my stay to a day or two more. She has given us one week to book this at this rate. I posted this on the FaceBook Group page as well but wanted to do it here as well. She will set up a group rate and I will give you a phone number to call in and make your own arrangements with your own credit card. Yes, it is very nice and what I would consider on the higher end. If people can get a rate of $100 a night there, that is a very good deal. It has lovely grounds, live jazz in the garden some nights, a spa and very nice rooms. We even played live music there in Paz's suite one night without complaint or incident. (It being a corner suite probably helped ;-). I got it confused with another place closer to me. This hotel is probably around 5 blocks from the center of downtown but very walkable and there are shuttle Dash buses where you can ride all over 25 cents. It is in the Little Tokyo and Artists Districts. Lots of good places to eat - Japanese, Chinese, Korean and gourmet and a few jazz and live music clubs within a block or two. On Feb 3, 2011, at 4:33 PM, wrote: Thanks, Jim. I can vouch for the Kyoto Grand downtown. I think paz and the band have also stayed there. It's just a couple blocks from me and near the center of things such as the Contemporary Art Museum, Disney Concert Hall, Music Center, many beautiful arhitectural bldgs. (L.A.Library, etc.) and many fine restaurants and clubs. Downtown has become a great destination in recent years. Further down the street is L.A. Live, the Grammy Museum and more. The subway system can take you to Hollywood Blvd.,out to Universal Studios, over to Pasadena and to East L.A. In other words, lots to easily sightsee, plus access to transportation and the Kakki pad ;-) There should also be some reasonably priced hotels/motels in Hollywood. Hollywood has also become a great place to dine, shop and sightsee in recent years and has easy subway access. Downtown is about 8 miles from Hollywood Bowl. That translates to driving time of 10-12 minutes in no traffic and about 20-30 minutes in the regular traffic. Midweek Hotel rates in LA are much higher than weekends. Gaging by hotwire.com rates for 8/16 to 8/18 checkout which would be about the best group rates available, rooms are 4 star property in downtown LA @ $106/nt 3 star property downtown @ $94/nt (Most likely Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens ) 3.5 star property Glendale/Burbank/Universal City @ $125/nt 3 star property Glendale/Burbank/Universal City @ $106/nt 3 star property Hollywood @ $110/nt (might not be a nice enough property though) Priceline.com has a group rates for 8/16 - 8/18/ of Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens (3.5 star downtown) has a group rate of $119 (2 beds) and $109 (1 bed) Safari Inn (3 star Burbank) has a group rate of $109/nt (not that good of a property imo) Coast Anabelle Hotel (3 star Burbank) has a group rate of $129/nt Rates nearer LAX are the least expensive though I didn't list any. (the above is just food for thought - Paz see if your NO connections know of any So Cal connections) As for a Santa Ynez Valley group rates, it looks like most properties I browsed are very expensive ($200/nt and up) and a lot are fully booked already. Unless someone has "connections" or alternative ideas, it may price some of us out of a weekend getaway. I, personally am game for anything within reason and would even consider pitching a tent as someone else suggested (though not my 1st choice - lol). An option I thought of that we might consider would be a weekend in Palm Springs using the Alpine Gardens (http://www.alpinegardens.com/) as our base camp/Ground Zero headquarters. Palm Springs is about 115 miles from the Hollywood Bowl and Tom, one of the owners of the property, said he could give us 8 rooms for about $70 - $80 per night (or less) which would be awesome. That would accomodate about 16 - 25 of us and there are other inexpesive, nice properties nearby for overflow. The place is perfect for music, fun and sun. Check out their accomodations on their website and let's beat this idea around if anyone thinks it would be a good idea. I think a 3 - 5 night stay here would be a blast even with the desert heat of August. Here are the tripadvisor reviews of the place http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32847-d119389-Reviews-Alpine_Gardens _Hotel-Palm_Springs_California.html Jim = ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2011 20:14:53 +0000 (GMT) From: Lieve Reckers Subject: Re: Cassandra Wilson - For the Roses Lovely version, and fascinating info about the National Recording Registry, Jim! I saw your message suffered from the same problem I had so many times: those "b"s in the middle of the text, that make it rather difficult to read, so I hope you don't mind that I took it upon myself to clean it up and hopefully make it more accessible to the other readers. At least, it looks fine in my draft here. Who knows what letters will come spooking round when it reaches the JMDL! It's Mitchell's first, and so far only, album to accomplish this feat. Other selections that year included Michael Jackson's Thriller, The Tracks of My Tears by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison, My Fair Lady (original cast), It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels by Kitty Wells, If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again by Tommy Dorsey, Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock, Harry S. To date, only 300 recording have been preserved/selected by the registry. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2011 22:35:38 -0600 From: Michael Paz Subject: Fwd: YouTube - Christine Ohlman singing Joni Mitchell's " Clouds" from PazFest II Labor Day Weekend Michael Paz michael@thepazgroup.com Tour Manager Preservation Hall Jazz Band http://www.preservationhall.com Begin forwarded message: From: Christine Ohlman Date: February 7, 2011 10:18:12 PM CST To: Michael Paz Subject: YouTube - Christine Ohlman singing Joni Mitchell's " Clouds" Hi Michael..somehow this came into view in the youTube world.
