Her new EP was produced by Michael Leonhart (Steely Dan, Yoko Ono)who also produced my CD "Heliotrope"and I can guarantee that many of you will absolutely love her music. She was recently nominated for an Emmy for a documentary soundtrack that she composed, and she was a recent finalist in the New Music Seminar emerging artist contest. Allison is the real deal, and fans of Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, Laura Nyro, Tori Amos and Kate Bush will find much to love in these brilliant new tracks of hers. http://www.rockethub.com/projects/647-sweet-and-vicious-ep-launch The fundraiser ends TONIGHT at midnight EST, so I am hoping that lots and lots of you will take a few minutes out of your day today to listen to a track or two and donate to her campaign. This is an all-or-nothing fundraiser, and AS OF NOON PST, SHE NEEDS ~$2000so if 400 people donate $5, that will put her over the goal. But if you're as blown away by her brilliant songwriting as I think many of you will be, then I encourage you to be as generous as you can. You will receive a download of the EP within a couple of days, and you will also receive a physical copy of the EP once it's back from the factory. There are also some fun prizes to check out on the URL above. Note that RocketHub works just like KickStarterthat is, if she doesn't meet her goal tonight, she loses all the funds that have been raised up to this point. Allison's music is incredibly deserving of wider attention, and this is a chance for you to help a truly great artist. January 21 2 comments 8:04 PM 1/21/2011 by Jay A. Fernandez, Borys Kit John Sayles, the Oscar-nominated writer of Passion Fish andLone Star, has been hired by Sony to adapt Girls Like Us, the 2008 bestseller written by Sheila Weller. First-time feature director Katie Jacobs, a producer and director on the Fox series House, is helming and producing the project, along with Lorenzo DiBonaventura, Amy Pascal andElizabeth Cantillon. The book traces the personal histories of singer-songwriters Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell and Carole King from childhood through their burgeoning professional careers. Sayles' 2007 film Honeydripper took place in the music world, and he directed some iconic videos for Bruce Springsteen in the 1980s--"Born in the U.S.A." among them. He also lived through the period and was a big fan of the book. Sayles was a mentor and executive producer on Karyn Kusama's debut, Girlfight, but he plans to stick merely to the book with Jacobs. Sayles is himself a National Book Award nominee for an early novel, Union Dues. As it happens, King is performing at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday night in Park City at the party for Troubadours, a U.S. documentary competition film that will have its premiere Saturday afternoon.Troubadours, which looks at the L.A. singer-songwriter scene of the '70s, covers some of the same ground as Girls Like Us. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2011 14:02:56 -0800 From: Kay Ashley Subject: UPDATE (more time!): Urgent request to help support an amazing independent artist (deadline SUN 1/23 @ 11pm EST) Dear Friends, I'm so sorry for the bandwidth. In fact, I have been her carer for the past 13 years till this last June when the strain got too much and Mum finally agreed to me getting a paid carer to help. Well, my brother (who had travelled up from Cornwall around 300 miles away) was coming to look after Mum for a few days when he phoned me this afternoon to say that he had arrived and found Mum had died in her bed this afternoon. We have found out that her carer saw her at 10.30 this morning and she had breakfast and the carer went at 11.00. She did say Mum was feeling tired. Anyway, it seems like she must have gone to bed, which she liked to do, and passed some time after. I am very shocked, but so grateful that we are able to keep Mum at home. Just before Christmas, she had heart failure, but wouldn't go to hospital so me and my brother looked after her until the imminent danger passed. It was a scary time, but I knew that if my Mum had gone to hospital then, she would have been gone then. She was blind and needed a hearing aid to hear and had been brought up in institutions and so hated hospital. Mum told me that she would like Joni's BSN at her funeral as she always felt that she didn't know life at all, so that's what we will do. She loved Robin and Dave's version of the song, disliked Judy Collins intensely, but said that only Joni could sing it the 'right way for me'. I feel such a mixture of emotions. It's been so,so hard, but I am so grateful that she was in her bed and was having a normal day. I am also so glad that all her dreadful suffering has now ended. I will miss her terribly. Those of us who have been thru the deaths of our parents know that while it's an inevitable part of life, its nonetheless a shock, whenever it happens. I hope you find comfort in the fact that you took such good care of her for so long, and that she passed peacefully in her own home. All the best to you and your family, Terra ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2011 #24 **************************** ------- To post messages to the list, send to joni@smoe.org.
