But what intrigues me are the images used in the video. Some of them look like home movie footage of Joni and Graham, and there are stills from the Joel Bernstein Lake Mendota, WI shoot for *Hejira*. Does anyone know if this is (legally) available? The same person also posted a video of the album version of "Blonde in the Bleachers," including shots that were obviously taken at the Monterey concert, but also interspersed with stuff like contact sheets of Joni and Graham and other brief film snippets of CSNY that I've never seen before. Wondering if most of this is well-known to some here and I'm just discovering it way late?? The videos were posted about a month ago, and the person's YouTube page says he/she is 26 and in the UK. And just a minor point of correction...the 1970 concert was NOT the Albert Hall but rather the Paris Cinema Theater in London. Lots of bootlegs out there of the concert showing it as The Albert Hall, don't know if that bit of disinformation will ever get cleared up. And I agree with the snarky comment. Very few artists who cover "River" bring anything new to it; however there are some. YouTube covers of the song are around 98.6% wretched. Just a couple of quick notes; Gail Martin is Dean Martin's daughter, her recording of "I Had A King" was released only as a promo. I guess her career never took off. Jenni Roditi's cover of "All I Want" is AMAZINGLY bad. I am astounded that someone didn't sabotage it and stop it from coming out but here it is in all its horror for those who love to wallow in badness. TWO "Man From Mars" covers! Go figure. The system used in the west is really convenient cos you can produce mass horroscopes for everyone, but astrology was supposed to be linked to the stars, all of them, and the more distant the more there are, i think (thob of course i may be wrong!) and this western system, which is called the btropicalb system, is actually so sun-centered that it is weather-bound!....something about the backdrop of stars has changed, shifted through the centuries....and the sidereal system (used more in the east) takes this into account....the stars of the entire universe are more relevant....And then they do put emphasis on ones ascendant and onebs moon sign: onebs sun-sign is far less prominent...but in there, you may well find that you belong to the preceding sun-sign...just a suggestion...if you want to become starstruck again! ...was trying to find the initial post regarding bmiss obdellb...wish i knew what it was. I read through the postings most days, yet somehow before i know it, ibve missed something. And a question: are the numerous links provided here sort of relatively safe?...as safe and as unsafe as anything else, very likely....but still, i just wonder? And then regarding that songs of Dire Straits bMoney for Nothingb...with itbs reference to some bfaggotb...I think itbs hightime for this pervasive politically correct sentimentality to disappear: let the songs be aired with their sentiment and all...banishing notions isnbt the answer. let them stand and fall by their sentiments...and then also people change their minds....and they mightbve , by now. Some of this morality that finds it way into what is acceptable and what isnbt actually is just another way of self-censorship, and it is outrageous in that certain observations arenbt even allowed......rather let it all be said and then one can debate it...really, i think self-censorship is absurd.....onebs brain makes distinctions, and observations, and if youbre gonna ignore your brain, in the end youbre gonna say nothing original.....even more alarming, cease thinking altogether... I think itbs great that there is so much discussion around other musicians here....when i get it together ibll be accessing some links provided (hopefully itbs not more dangerous than anything else) and ibd love to explore contempor ymusic and films partly through what is suggested here.. The new technology seems really to be delivering things for free...so a last, more things are for free.....and provided by human endeavour and actually, by the pursuit of knowledge, not some political or religious ideology...like socialism. What a disaster if things become more and more free!!....maybe people will decide itbs not worth working for decades and land up deep in debt nevertheless, and for all those whobve lost their jobs.....i can imagine that onebs esteem suffers greatly...but thatbs just at first......what about those words by joan armatrading in bblessedb on loverbs speak....bif you can feel the sun, if you can feel the rain, things canbt be that bad, ..if you have food to eat, and all your dream to dream..life canbt be bad....and austerity would be SUCH a good thing for the planet. I think Joni would agree, perhaps???...some thought on this? Anyway, thanking all those posting regularly and irregularly on the list...there are good vibes here ( thob at times ibve felt some nasty ones too...inevitable, i suppose). I suppose Joni sets the standard for us here. OK, be well Ingrid ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 19:08:47 +0200 From: "ingrid lochrenberg" Subject: generalisations ...oh!...jus wanted to say sorry for carrying on so about idealism versus science.....ibll try to stop now. Ok, but just also onebs brain does generalise when observations are made, often,....and often even thob something is generally true youbre not allowed to utter the observation due to it seeming sexist or this or that....nevertheless, it may be an accurate observation. Then the way i think around it is knowing that every individual might differ from any group youbve assigned them to....and be vastly superior to onsself in any category...and so then as long as you can try and meet every new individual with an open mind, that is where prejudice disappears...and your observations become irrelevant. And then sometime if you just do happen to THINK something, which you may change your mind about any day, we...surely one is allowed to THINK..whatever the consequence. And by the way, is one allowed to think here?.(.without referring to joni)....Joni is such a thinker....and she has stressed her music was just one expression ...there is her art too, and in her music she is forever thinking aloud...so i suppose so can we, here?...i suppose the better alternative would be to put the thoughts to music...it might be a bit more palatable, or less boring .Ibd love to here her thoughts on things ongoing...I have looked at I think almost all the interviews conducted with her, on Youtube.....like about stars these days presenting themselves as so bwell-defended...adopting a style,b...I can imagine she overflows with ideas, constantly. Shine really is to me profound, because of the music, and the mood of it....itbs subtlety and also...there seems to be a peace in it....for want of a better word, perhaps. I canbt imagine that her love life is or was any easier than anyone elsebs...i thought one curse of stardom was itbs effect on ones private life. Yes, there may have been an endless availability of lovers....but that doesnbt mean they behave themselves any better than anyone elsebs lover.....and she has expressed disillusion, wait i think ibll listen again ,in fact, right now, to bNight Ride Homeb...i thought i picked it up there. Also, something striking about Joni is her being centred so in her one life b not confusing it with the reception she got.....gee, i wish i could walk witb her on a beach...and hear from her some snippets of what her dream may be , that fly with the seagulls,... out of reach, ...out of cry... ok ingrid ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 20:09:39 +0200 From: "ingrid lochrenberg" Subject: double standards for instance, how difficult is it to realise that if one is not wanted, as in afghanistan, it is polite to leave.....why spend billions going and killing others in their own countries, and trying to change their minds b i canbt imagine it ever working. i suppose the only possible good consequence of war is to hold out till a regime changes...but sometimes, one doesnbt offer a better alternative in terms of values. why not just concentrate on keeping america safe around america..i mean, why not let everyone fly naked if theybre bound for america, and send all their luggage with a drone, a few days after, after itbs been directed and put together again. i think this might be far less troublesome to everyone. how come being in a government allows one to commit murder..in the name of democracy.....or lock people up in solitary confinement......in the name of lofty ideals....i thought values were not situation-related. anyway, i think the planes full of naked people is an excellent idea. and i do think theybd probably love it over there, once they got there. what did joni say about laughs? it is amazing that she never seemed to ever identify with her image....it must be a strong sense of self and being where is , in the moment, and maybe feeling therebs far more at stake. thatbs it for a good few days. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2011 14:07:45 -0500 From: Jim Subject: Subject: Ophiuchus and the zodiac, njc Bah!
