The weather has been a challenge from the West Coast to the East but everyone seemed to be of great cheer regardless. I remember buying Barbra's Stoney End record a million years ago solely for the I Don't Know Where I Stand cut. Still have the vinyl. It was shocking to hear about Teena Marie. She was way too young to leave us. I never knew she was a local Santa Monica girl until I read the obit. Years ago I received some gratis tapes of her music when I worked with one of her record companies. I need to go find and play them. Interesting (and troubling) backstory on her, Paz. And Bob, your NP Smithereens Room Without a View - YES!! They are still in my top 5 favorite bands ever and definitely my number one band out of New Jersey (Sorry, Boss;-) They were still appearing live here and there in clubs a few years ago. They are incredible live!! All the very best of everything to you all in the New Year! I haven't been as active on the list as I used to but I still read everything with great interest, nodding sometimes and shaking my head at other times. It's great to be part of this community! I saw them at the Clearwater Festival a few years back in Asbury Park. My good friend Susan Lisle who we lost this past Sept to cancer; was a huge fan . I took Susan's picture with Pat that day. She was intent to get her book ( Beyond the Palace by Gary Wien) signed by him, which she did! Highly recommend the book btw. Of course it's about the Asbury Park music scene. It was displayed at her Memorial /fundraiser in AP. I believe she had that book signed by just about every musician mentioned in it! Suzy, as we fondly called her, was always in attendance and watched the scene grow. She is sadly missed by many! Happy Holidays ! Just him and his guitar, no setlist, asking for requests. Since I had all the albums (and since I'm a smarta$$ by nature) I was calling out only deep and obscure tracks which drew continual strange looks from him. Finally he hollered "How do you know those songs?" to which I replied "Dude, I have all your albums!" And to his credit he played almost everything I called out. I couldn't get "In A Lonely Place" which is one of my favorites. That is fantastic. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your good friend. It is wonderful that she got to meet her faves from the book. I will definitely check it out. Am a fan of a lot of the music from N.J. - must be my ancestral roots from back east ;-) Take care, Kakki > Hey Kakki, > > Pat DiNizio is my cousin Doloris's neighbor. I've always wanted to attend one of the Music Cares events - they always sound off the chart. Too pricey but maybe I could get a job as an usherette or something to attend one day. ;-) I sure hope you can come out for NAMM! It's been a long time. Let me know! But how disappointing to hear about her management. You said: She played the Zulu Ball during Mardi Gras a couple times and the crowd really eat her up I had to google Zulu Ball to see what kind of instrument a Zulu Ball was that Teena played during Mardi Gras. I imagined her in the streets with the crowd. The information back at me was: "The Zulu Ball is a carnival coronation ball for an african american carnival krewe/social club called Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club. Its a ball/concert where they celebrate the zulu's carnival season." LOL ....always learning something on the JMDL !! Laura Michael Paz wrote: > I saw this in yesterdays paper.
