I can't remember if I told this story on this list because I in no way feel like I can take credit for something so huge as Joni finding her long lost daughter. It takes a village as they say. Anyway, for those who were around in those days the creation of a Joni Mitchell discussion list was something I had been pressing Wally Breese to think about running from his website but he was not interested for a variety of reasons. He finally conceded to a web based message system on his Joni Mitchell site which was not very interactive (actually people would email me and then I would post the messages manually!). Somewhere within that time, Les Irvin started the JMDL and I was overjoyed!!! So I was moderating the Wally web-based message list while also reading and posting on the JMDL. Early 1997, I received an email through Wally's website from a guy named Ted Barrington who said his girlfriend was looking for her biological mother and thought it might be Joni. I can't remember all the details of the email but something about it made me feel like it wasn't a crackpot request. I immediately forwarded it to Wally to follow up with. I later found out that this was not the only correspondence that Ted and Kilauren had sent, there was also info sent to Les and Joni's management, but ultimately the Joni Mitchell internet community, including Wally's website bio and the JMDL did get the info to Kilauren to suspect that Joni was her mother. The rest as they say is history. Joni did contact Wally and Les to thank them for their help, which I think resulted in both of them meeting her personally. This is how I remember it. It's quite astounding to think about. Being part of Joni's reunion with her daughter is such a highlight of the JMDL, it is a story that can be told again and again! Is it actually covered in the posts that are now available in the archive? (Just asking out of laziness because I have not yet had the time to dig into the archive further.) Also, can you tell us a bit more about those early days, e.g. when/how did Wally Breese start with his website, what was it like, how did you link up with him, and how did it then connect with Les's JMDL? When did any of you meet in person for the first time? Anything you can tell us to make those early days come alive would be much appreciated, I am sure not only by me!
